Progress is defined by where you used to be and where you are now. I’m sure some of these all look the same but, if you look closely and you know what to look for, results are there. The fact that I can see my V line and have an actual taper going down my obliques is something I’ve never seen before.

Couples weightloss update! I posted this #transformationtuesday post a few weeks ago right after Devin and I got back from our vacation. We had both gained some weight and decided to do a friendly competition to see who could lose their vacation weight the fastest. He had quite a bit more to lose than I did ( 21lbs vs 8lbs) but since he is a big guy he can usually drop weight super quick so I still think he had the advantage. Anyways...fast forward 6 weeks later and guess what?! I won!! I’m officially in the 150s again and feeling great. He’s pretty close to his goal to but has struggled to lose the last 4lbs. I’m honestly just happy we both were able to get right back on track after an off track week and we are both feeling great going into Christmas ❤️

Hopefully by now you understand the key component of fat loss will be diet. Fat loss starts and ends there. Workouts will certainly help, but are not as important.

I will also mention you can certainly *incorporate* workouts with high reps and short rest periods in phases, but the majority of your workouts should look like the right column.

Reason being, if you are always doing super high reps with short rest periods chasing the high calorie burn and super sweaty feeling, you’re turning your strength workout into too much of a cardio workout.

Most of your workouts should be focused on increasing weight and/or reps with basic compound movements. That goes for people trying to gain muscle or lose fat.

These types of workouts will mold and shape your body with great definition and tone, and help you maintain much needed muscle as body fat starts to melt from your fat loss diet.

We all know preparing your own food is a great way of controlling your Calories and macros. I love cooking and I really recommend everyone learn to cook some basic healthy dishes 🥩🥦🍗🥔🧀🍅.

BUT WE DONT ALWAYS HAVE TIME TO COOK!!!
👉Sometimes you get home late from work.
👉Sometimes all the cookwear is in the dishwasher.
👉Sometimes the thought of chopping vegetables feels like too much work.
👉Sometimes you just can't be bothered.

I deal with this all the time too. So this LAZY WAY of cooking helps me a lot:
✔️It's super fast so it saves time🕑.
✔️It only needs one bowl so minimum cleanup🍽️.
✔️It allows me to get plenty of veg and protein🥦🍅🍗🥩.
✔️It's really tasty🤤.
✔️It's ridiculously modifiable.

1️⃣Put some chopped, frozen vegetables in a bowl and. microwave for a few minutes.
2️⃣Add some cooked protein (chicken, low fat sausage, beans etc).
3️⃣Add your soul of choice.
4️⃣Microwave until hot and enjoy😉.

⭐Low in calories
⭐High in protein
⭐Full of veggies
⭐Tasty as fudge 😍

Running outside: Why athletes NEED to do it. 
Running on a treadmill is awesome- you can’t slow down or you’ll fall off. We MUST run outside to train our brains to push our bodies. In a sporting event your not on a treadmill... right? Also treadmills don’t use our hamstrings as much as running outside does- AKA do both, running inside is okay BUT don’t rely on it. 
Workout: 
Run 100yrds in under 18seconds, jog back in the reminder of the minute (42 seconds) 
REPEAT 8x for 1 set (8 total minutes).
Rest 2-3 minutes between sets 
Repeat set 2-3x for a complete workout 
Tips: I tend to jog back in about 30 seconds so I have a chance to stand there and catch my breath! It’s not a longer break, I just don’t spend the whole 42 seconds to jog back. 
Also if you struggle finishing 2 sets of 8, maybe do 3 sets of 5 your first time! 
REMINDER: running outside is harder! 👍🏼👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

If you are not enjoying your weight loss journey - you despise your diet, or dread working out then you are doing your self a disservice.

Im NOT saying you have to enjoy every second of the process because at times it can be difficult to stick to a nutrition plan or get through a tough workout. But if you are in a constant state of unhappiness it a matter of time before you quit. At the end of the day, what ultimately matters is YOU.

✅ YOU need to stop comparing yourself to others.

✅ YOU need to stop punishing yourself when you slip up mistakes happen no one is perfect

✅ YOU need to make sure the people around you know how important your goals are to you. (this one is sooooo important)

Junk food has higher calories and is easily more accessible and we can eat more of it. They don’t fill us up as much as whole ingredient foods

Life update; I survived my night shift pretty well but I don’t know how I’ll now adjust to waking up at 6AM for the next two days in a row for 12 hour day shifts!🤔 I was going to chat about nutrition for night shifts but I woke up too hungry to even think about it lols but basically night shifts are pretty taxing on the body & although it’s important to include the nutritious foods to help you to stay healthy, your body needs energy too & that means calories & lots of. I think it’s just really important to have a good relationship with food & to listen to if you need some chocolate but also know that chocolate alone won’t give you what your body needs💗

I’m not paleo. I’m not keto. I’m not a 100% clean eater. I’m flexible and I practice balance. Hence the “I balance salads with skittles, chicken with chocolate” comment in the text!

The diet mentality programs the brain that food has some sort of morality and you’re “good” if you eat this and “bad” if you eat that. 🙅🏼‍♀️ What if we just eat what makes us feel well, focus on mostly whole foods, and don’t stress the dessert that sometimes is in there too? Do I think we need sugar and dessert daily to be healthy? No. Do I think you’ll die if you have a few chocolate chips after dinner? Nope. And that small bit may be what keeps you from a binge...YOU have to assess YOU and know how you’ll best respond.

Find some balance and less hardcore inflexibility in the way you eat. This is the perfect time of year to practice BALANCE! Load those Christmas plates with protein & veggies, and then pick out your most favorite dessert in the land and savor every single bite of that serving...not the whole pie because...balance 😎.

#MotivationMonday Even the best of us need motivating at times when life happens!

So grab a seat Rateteers for today's Rat Time story... The first picture you see here is the first transformation the Rat did in 2016. I didn't even know what bodybuilding was really until July '16 when I entered my first ever bodybuilding show. This came following the success I had with the BodyPower Transformation contest by winning the 16 week transformation seen in the 4th picture. But the Rats journey didn't start there!

I got into weight lifting when I was about 18 and started by simply doing pull ups and press ups 4x a day with the sole aim to get big and 'ard. It was some time till I invested in some dumbells and things progress from there. Fast forward to the 2nd pic taken in October 2014 where I weighed approx 83kg before travelling some of the world... Mainly South East Asia for 6 months.

The 3rd picture (April 2015) is the result of those 6 months after not hitting the gym once and getting hit with several severe illnesses throughout with the worst coming at the end (I'm a crap traveller). In that picture I weighed under 9 stone (under 60kg) before being hospitalised and close to the Rats days being ended.

On my discharge from hospital and when well enough I hit the gym and struggled to bench the bar for 5 reps and squat 5kg either side for 5. BUT muscle memory is a thing and actually quite astonishing as I increased strength on everything by 10% every week! From April 2015 to Jan 2016 I probably became stronger than before I left the UK. But as you can see I was quite out of shape! Queue the Rats first transformation as mentioned earlier!

Later that year I finished my first ever season competing in Miami where I placed 3rd natural lightweight in the world (last pic post show). So in the space of 2 years the Rat bounced between several extreme weights, diced with death and competed in a world finals with the best bodybuilders in the world!

Things may look shitty if you're stuck in a hole you think you'll never get out of... But there's always a light at the end of the tunnel... You've just gotta be patient until you get there and you'll be stronger for it!

Weighing Yourself: UNDERSTAND IT

Before you get on the scale each morning, its important you understand the variables that effect it before you let it effect your views, mood and enthusiasm for the day ahead. This is also why its important to create a positive and educated body image for yourself. Things that will effect your weigh in:

1. The amount of carbs you ate the day before: eating 1g gram of carb can potentially cause you to store 3-4g of water intracellularly. This water retention can increase scale weight, but this is not body fat. Only a calorie surplus will do that.

2. Food still in your digestive system. If you have had slower or less frequent bowel movements, or you are having digestive issues this could also increase scale weight as there is more food still in your system then normal.

3. Eating a large meal closer to bed time. This will combine point 1 and 2 as it means more carbs and more food in your system leading you to weigh heavier the next morning.

4. Weighing yourself at a different time in the morning. The later your weigh in, the lighter you will tend to be. So if you weigh yourself earlier then normal or after less sleep, you could be heavier.

5. Increased sodium in our meals the day prior. If you have eaten processed food or any food with high sodium levels,  it could also increase water retention.

Other things that will effect it are stress, illness, inflammation, a females time of the month, among many other variables. Bear all this in mind when conducting your weigh ins.

I’ve posted about this before but I still get a lot of questions and see a lot of people struggle with this so let’s go over it again.

First of all, if you are dieting and are in a calorie deficit and your weight goes up by 1-2lbs, relax! You are NOT gaining fat!

It is important to realise that body weight fluctuations are absolutely normal and occur on daily basis. Have a look at the diagram to see what affects the scale weight on day to day basis☝️

The time of your evening meal may affect your morning weight, if you ate your dinner late then it will show on the scale but relax you haven’t put fat on🤷🏻‍♂️

You may have had more water that day or consumed more carbohydrates, remember that for 1g of carbs your body pulls around 3-4g of water.

You may have had bigger volume of food or had more salty foods that day?

It could be that you trained hard and your muscles are inflamed therefore you’re holding more water which shows on the scales but again, relax you haven’t put fat on😉
