My top 4 ways to make use of what I ALREADY have ⬆️!
Minimizing your closet or even simply the items you own can mean asking yourself difficult, but ultimately revealing questions: does it still fit? have you worn it in the last year? would you wear it again? do I love the way it looks on me? if I saw it in a store now, would I buy it? is it damaged? Lately, I’ve often found myself asking, is it timeless?
UP-cycling can come in handy if you’re creative or already into sowing! & even if you aren’t (like me), it can be really special to visit a local seamstress and see what she can make of that old material you still really like the feel or colour of!
Swapping is my personal favourite 🔄! Get together with friends, family, community, and organize a clothing (and/or toy, furniture, options are endless) swap. It’s a wonderful way to give leftovers to a non-profit of your choice, and to find something new as well. Odds are someone has a style that’s similar to your own, or just the piece you had your eye on! More info on the LOVE Club’s next swap in the following post xx
Finally, we all know that sharing is caring! In this case, it’s a great opportunity to tell your mom, your brother, your cousin, your best friend, etc., that you care about the livelyhood of others across the globe, as well as the health of the environment that needs our loving!
How do you make use of those items (apparel or not) that you already own? I’m all ears!

So following on from my post on Friday,
this outfit is a mixture of new and old, the skirt I picked up a few weeks ago in the @topshopcanada sale for 15 dols it’s so bright and I love the colours and buckles either side, the sweater is last years @primark and it’s perfect to wear lounging around or tucked into a skirt or pair of jeans/trousers, and my denim jacket is from @hm this summer, I’ve bought many denim jackets over the last few years but never the ‘right’ colour denim if you get what I mean, this colour is perfect because it goes with every other denim too if you were wearing denim on the bottom as well (that’s a lot of denim in one sentence lol) and lastly I picked up every colour beret @primark had to offer last year and they have become a staple in my wardrobe! Going to be working on some new videos/posts over the next few weeks, some Winter Staples for your wardrobe and The best Christmas party outfits for 2018 so stay tuned!....❤️🎄
Our consumerist ways extend WAY beyond simply making us more materialistic generations. Some quick facts:
• Apparel is the 2nd highest polluting industry in the world, second only to the oil industry. Can we be surprised.. when the average [American] throws away 82 pounds of textile waste a year?
• There are roughly 40 MILLION garment factory workers (85% are women) worldwide (more than 60% in so-called ‘developing countries’). The majority of whom make less than $3 a day, are forced to work in dangerous or toxic (ex. toxic dyes) facilities, thousands of them being child-labourers.
• To harvest 1 pound of cotton (the world’s most commonly used natural fiber), farmers (in China, India, the U.S., Pakistan, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Brazil) apply nearly 1/3 pound of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. In addition, this little plant drinks up “more than its fair share of water”.
• In total, some 90% of garments are transported by container ship each year, a number so big that experts say it’s impossible to gauge how much fuel this entails.
I realize those are a lot of numbers. Simply put, to meet the demands of consumer society, the fast fashion industry is immensely exploiting our fellow humans, and the natural resources that Mother Nature offers us. We are increasingly disconnected from the steps it takes before something can fill our closet, making getting rid of something just that much more mindless.
If these statistics surprised you or you’d like some more motivation to change your relationship with threads, I’ll have a link to EcoWatch in my description. Or if you’re looking for a Sunday night movie idea: check out @truecostmovie on

Let's talk a little bit about slow fashion. The coat in this pic is the mandatory sixth form coat my parents had to buy me for £100 when I was 16. At the time I shopped in primark and new look and the thought of a hundred pound coat seemed ridiculous to me. But it's a good quality coat and this is now my seventh winter wearing it. Given that I wear it for around half of the year, I worked out that the cost per wear is now 9p, and it's got several years of life left in it 🌼 the fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters in the world, as well as being known for a lack of workers' rights/clear supply chains, and rejecting fast fashion (buying cheap clothes all the time) and choosing quality pieces where you can afford it is so important for the environment, for animals and for the humans who make our clothes. Two docs I highly recommend watching: The True Cost (on Netflix) and the @sjdooley Investigates Fashion's Dirty Secrets (iPlayer). I wanna talk more about ethics and the environment and this kinda stuff! 💛 .

#osbaratexdafaby#baratexdafaby#fastfashion#cea#fashion#animalprint
