Karl Lagerfeld chose the sandstone Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as the setting for the Métiers d’art 2018/19 show. Commissioned during the reign of the Roman emperor Augustus Caesar around 10 B.C, the Temple is today one of the most recognizable symbols of ancient Egypt. Gifted to the United States in 1965 in recognition of the country’s support of the UNESCO International Campaign to Save the Monuments of Nubia, and awarded to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1967, the Temple continues to inspire all who see it.

Since 2002, Karl Lagerfeld has unveiled a collection dedicated to Chanel’s Métiers d’art each December. This runway show highlights a truly creative dialogue between the creator and the Métiers d’art Houses and manufacturers, making it possible to maintain an artistic, technical and cultural heritage, but also to enrich a creative melting pot, in constant effervescence.

Having commenced the acquisition of the Métiers d’art in 1985, now united under the ‘Paraffection’umbrella, Chanel is a pioneer of preservation and the only House to dedicate a Ready-to-Wear collection to this precious savoir faire that contributes so much to the influence of French luxury and fashion around the world. #fashionela #LAMAISONDIGITAL

Spending time in the Parisian home of the richest man in the world at that time, was a truly marvelous experience. Not only because of its former glory but simply because it is one of the best modern boutique hotels that we had a chance to visit this year. Situated in one of the Parisian most elegant neighborhoods, the famous Madeleine district, Maison Astor is a fairly large hotel with 131 recently refurbished rooms. In 2018 thorough renovations took place, turning the already beautiful hotel into a contemporary work of art. Everything inside Maison Astor is meticulously designed to evoke the memories of its former owner. There are details throughout the hotel that clearly refer to John Jacob’s interest in science fiction – he was a published author after all. The hotel’s conference rooms, the “Kitty’s Library” and the “Travel Study” are each devoted to various aspects of Mr. Astor’s colorful persona.

We came to discover Marignan‘s new restaurant Limon, loved for its delightfully fresh cuisine which is very delicious and surprisingly healthy! Located in Paris‘s chic eighth arrondissement, Limon is only 15 minutes walk away from the Arc de Triomphe. Some years ago, Christian Dior opened up shop near by at 30 Avenue Montaigne, and after that every major European fashion house followed. The Grand Palais is steps away, as well as many top galleries.

For its first-ever #HolidaySeason campaign, #SalvatoreFerragamo invites us into our world. Shot by #SofiaMalamute, the campaign stars a cast of three women and two men that expands the Patchwork Of Characters concept – an embrace of difference and diversity. Appropriate to the season – a time of togetherness, sharing and joy – they are portrayed celebrating each other’s company in a beautiful heritage location.

Paul Andrew, Women’s Creative Director, says: “Being part of Ferragamo’s story is a true gift. Our dynamic creative community has all the rich heritage of this house to explore, and we enjoy total freedom to play with those codes from the past in order to reinvent them for the present. Shooting this campaign alongside Sofia and watching all that work come alive was extremely exciting. That’s because the greatest privilege in being able to explore the archive, passed down via generations of Ferragamo expertise and passion, lies in being able to introduce it to a new generation.” The campaign will break mid-November across digital platforms and social media. It highlights a special edit of Pre-Spring 2019 ready to wear, and dedicated Holiday Season collections which contemporize two of the greatest designs handed down from the Ferragamo archive. The famous 1938 Rainbow wedge that was created by Salvatore Ferragamo himself for Judy Garland: its immortal and inspiring rainbow palette is integrated into bags and shoes, both in rainbow stripes and block color rainbow shades.

The grosgrain bow Vara was invented by Salvatore’s daughter Fiamma in 1979. This season that famous bow, reimagined in leather, is applied to three new shoe styles – a thigh high boot in stretch nappa, a stretch nappa bootie, and a black ankle-strapped platform wedge. These new styles come either in black – part of a graphic black and white story accented by snake pattern that is also a key Holiday Season theme – or in the reimagined Sumatra print.

This 1990’s print, found by Paul Andrew in the Ferragamo archive, has been spliced and re-proportioned in silk scarves on shoes and handbags.

For the #Resort2019 season, #PacoRabanne Artistic Director #JulienDossena envisaged an escape to #Brittany – imagining La Parisienne off on a seaside escape. Unpicking #French #classicism, traditional techniques are revisited through streamlined draping and a sleek clash of nostalgic prints.
Complementing the season’s exploration of technical fabrications, two unique outerwear creations by Julien Dossena for Paco Rabanne are constructed in the ateliers of #GuyCotten, the iconic French specialist in protective clothing. Based in Brittany since 1964, this heritage brand is a world leader in the development and manufacture of technical #waterproof clothing for industrial and recreational purposes, playing a crucial role in the worlds of marine sports, fishing, agriculture, and outdoor recreation. The two styles by Julien Dossena adapt and evolve existing Guy Cotten designs with new shapes and unique Paco Rabanne details, whilst retaining inherent technical details from high-frequency welding to thermal-bonded and taped seams. Both garments feature a kimono sleeve construction and Guy Cotten’s signature Magic Hood, allowing maximum movement and #protection – exemplifying Paco Rabanne’s dedication to utility, #craftsmanship, and #contemporary #elegance.

A hotel is a point of endless rendezvous and interaction, both a destination and a starting point: a threshold between familiarity and the hitherto undiscovered. Inside a hotel’s rooms and suites, labyrinthine corridors and vestibules, personas are easily worn and shrugged off, different roles assumed and exchanged, and a million stories can be told. Hilton Paris Opera: The Majestic Legacy of the Belle Epoque!

1889 was a good year for the City of Lights. The Belle Époque was at its peak and always crowded Parisian boulevards were swarmed with numerous artists that were destined to stir rather conservative spirits of the art world, pushing its boundaries to the levels yet unknown. That year the World Fair was held in Paris, with Eiffel Tower as its main attraction. But, at that time the much-maligned behemoth of steel wasn’t the only architectural masterpiece built for the occasion. In 1889, the monumental Grand Hotel Terminus, strikingly designed by the architect Juste Lisch, opened its doors to awaiting clientele, comprised mostly of British tourists arriving at nearby Gare Saint Lazarewith a desire to see the grand exhibition. Since then, this impressive hotel changed the owners several times and from 2013 it is the proud member of distinguished Hilton group.

The theme of the hot-air balloon is seen throughout the entire building, to remind visitors of its previous life. Walls are adorned with copies of 19th-century masters and, contrastingly, doors opening to an adjoining room reflecting English club decor, with deep leather armchairs and couches, lavishly stocked bar and beautiful old books from floor to ceiling.
