Sunday Supper! Shared by our Orange County customer, Jennifer 🐂😊 This is from a couple years ago, and not only does Jennifer continue to by all her beef from Arrow J Beef Co., but she is such an advocate for what we do and the quality of our beef, that she has been highly influential in building up our customer base in Orange County. Thanks to her, we now have to make several trips a year to Southern California. But when your beef is that good, and raised like we raise them, people just don't want anything else. Thank you Jenn! And thanks for this TERRIFIC meal idea! 😋 #arrowjbeef#grassfedbeef#knowyourrancher#ranchdirectbeef#farmtotable#farmtofork#sundaysupper
Seasons, they are a changing! (or are they?) Which crops are you seeing come to an end of their season, and what new crops are starting to pop up on your farmers' tables these days?
In SoCal, we are seeing stone fruits and grapes start to dwindle... but small, first-of-the-season apples are popping up again! We're looking forward to the Fall crops like pumpkins, pomegranates and persimmons.. but our potential Indian Summer weather may push those crops out a little later than usual! #marketlife
Need to use up some kiwis? Np, just make some KIWI BREAD. 🥝 Yes, kiwi bread. It’s a thing, y’all! It reminds me a bit of pineapple 🍍 upside down cake (YUM) and it’s prettyyyy darn good. If you want the recipe, head on over to @food52 (note that I subbed coconut sugar for regular sugar, though!) P.S. I don’t normally use plastic wrap but a friend gave it to us when they were moving back to Turkey (@mervenli 😍) and I have to say it is so dang convenient. Someone please tell me there’s an eco-friendly version of the stuff? 😭 Hope you guys are having a beaaautiful Sunday! Xxxx
Just purchased 15 more Cornish Cross hens today. Wilco had them buy 2 get 1 through today. .
Raising your own meat birds is a wonderful way to be more self sufficient on your homestead. You know what your birds are being fed and you give them a good life before it is time to eat them. .
The Cornish Cross is one of the most popular meat chickens. These are the large chickens you typically purchase from the grocery store.
A common misconception with the Cornish Cross is that they are genetically modified (GMO). They are not. The Cornish Cross are simply a cross between two breeds chosen by their traits, and selectively bred over time to create this hybrid. As a result, you get a meat bird with amazing feed conversion and an ability to mature in eight weeks. When butchered, this breed gives you high quality, very tasty meat high in protein.
This is our second run with these. And won't be our last. While it's hard to do, I prefer knowing where my food comes from and knowing that the animals had the best life I could possibly give them and they weren't stuck in a cage their whole life.
Have you raised your own meat chickens? What has your experience been?
10 jars homemade salsa!!!! YESSSS!!!!! I could just stick a straw right in this! Judge if you must. lol.
Salsa is just my FAVORITE!
For our recipe I use:
tomatoes (shocker, I know ;) )
then~ seeded jalapenos (adding in some seeds to taste at the end), lime, cilantro, onion, garlic, vinegar, salt, green chilis, and HONEY!!!! Honey was an accident last year, and nom, nom, nom, it was a happy accident indeed! Move over sugar, I'll see ya again tomorrow for coffee!!! Anyhoo, since all the ingredients are based on how many tomatoes come out of the garden that day, I do the whole recipe by taste.
A little of this, a little of that, stir, taste WITH A CHIP, then repeat! I notice that if I don't taste it with a tortilla chip, I end up going a little heavy on the salt!
We like chunky salsa around here, so I leave the onion and jalapenos a little larger than the norm, and then I ladle out a bit of the liquid before filling my jars!
That's it! I would add some cumin, but I haven't tracked down one that specifically says Gluten Free on the label yet!
Gonna run officially can them now so they can hang out in the pantry with the other jars!
Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!!
*I promise I'll eventually paint that little strip of the cabinet! :) #summer#canning#kitchendesign#farmhousekitchen#vintagekitchen#theyjusthopeidropsomthing#cleanupcrew#dogs#rescue#salsa#homestead#farmtofork#harvest#mycountryhome#americanfarmhousestyle#vintageporchlovesvintage#mysouthernliving#bhgpets#bhghome#bhgfood
Moroccan mint tea with fresh mint makes me feel like I’m back in Marrakech (will be there soon!) Love the Farmer’s market veggies I picked up today. All the beautiful colors create good Feng Shui for our meals. I want to share a refreshing healthy drink I’ve been making that feels like “vacation” to me. Add lime juice, fresh mint and Stevia to water and put it in a pretty pitcher in your fridge. Looking forward to the amazing outdoor markets in Italy, Provence and Marrakech on my retreats next month. ❤️ Double tap if you love fresh, local Farmers markets as much as I do! What will you make with your local goodies? 🥗 #farmersmarket#localfood#colorfulveggies#minttea#happyandhealthy#moroccantea#fengshuilifestyle#flavoredwater
What a beautiful dinner last night. It felt like fate jumped in and gave us a hand. The smoke cleared, the wind died down long enough for us to cook al fresco at the right time. Couldn’t be happier with how things turned out. I got to work with the best team ever! These events are always a reminder that: A cook knows what to do when everything goes right. A chef knows what to do when everything goes wrong.
Hubby asked me if I was going to try for a fall garden. We picked a spot & I’ll get it up and running. It doesn’t frost here typically till late October/November so hopefully we’ll get some stuff first.
Friday night at dinner we drew# a picture of our property & made plans of everything we want to do on it. @nerdywrestler is really encouraging me to add a farm stand on our 5 yr plan. Can I just say how wonderful he is. He takes my dreams & knows where I want to go & encourages those paths. I just hope I do a good job of encouraging his paths.
We could not be more thrilled about our budding partnership with @secrettable. Exciting news coming soon!! A capture from last night’s farm to table dinner... We are filled with gratitude at the opportunity to celebrate friendship and local organic food at Coral Tree. Life is beautiful.
