‘Wandering flushes a glory that fades with arrival.’ - J.A. Baker
Our last big outdoor adventure lies back a bit over a month and I would kid myself if I were to say it hasn’t affected us at all. I and we are in need for some outdoor adventure and recharging those empty batteries. I’m looking forward to our autumn break! And in the mean time I will make an effort of adventuring locally.
Lassen Volcanic National Park, Lassen, California.

Lassen Volcanic National Park has so much history and geological wonders to explore. You will discover pristine lakes, beautiful rugged mountains, fields of wildflowers, and of course volcanoes. The volcanic activity creates hydrothermal features such as fumaroles (a hole in the ground releasing steam), boiling pools, mud pots and steaming grounds. This activity is evidence of a potential future eruption at this national park. Bumpass Hell Trail is the largest hydrothermal area in the entire park. It's also home to Big Boiler, the largest fumarole in the park. Take note that a closure area is in effect along Bumpass Hell Trail and Basin until Dec 1, 2018. The park is full of other hydrothermal features to enjoy, so plan your visit ahead to avoid the closed areas. There are over 150 miles of hiking trails to explore for hikers of all skill levels. Be sure to stay on the established trails as going off trail can result in serious injuries and severe burns. Other popular activities to do are bird watching, camping at eight campgrounds, guided walks, picnicking and star gazing. During the winter months, you can snowshoe, ski and snowboard. There is so much to do and explore at this national park it will have you coming back for sure!
Thank you so much @flyingzapata for sharing this great capture with us! This national park looks incredible! .

Time for a little reality— this hike is not that technical but is steep and constant on metal stairs straight up beside the falls. I ended up carrying the 3yo for most of the hike up and down. We spent several hours in the creek leading up to the waterfall. On the way back, we took a side trail to avoid the 175 steps but ended up being double the time. I also went down with my IT band after the 425 down and it slowed us down also. I would still highly recommend this spot in NW GA #amicalolafalls#hikegeorgia#familyhiking#familyhikes#exploregeorgia#hikingdad#georgia#wandernorthgeorgia#wandernorthga

After about ten days on the road, at this moment, I watched my baby boy turn into a little lad. He braved the cool waters and actually enjoyed it's refreshing bounty. He laughed. He played. He made a boat out of a stick and chased it all the way down the most northern river of #NovaScotia again and again. I didn't say a word and got to capture it with a camera. It makes me think about all these photos of our kids that we share. What they mean to parents vs others. There can be no translation of the feelings felt, however this is part of why we are sharing. This is why the Moment Exchange exists - it's to bring families together - to inspire them to engage in the #outdoors , to show what is possible. We need these stories to #rewild our children. What are your stories? Hit us up if you'd like to share. #momentexchange
Hike number thirty four has been completed 👌🏼 Before starting the @52hikechallenge I didn’t know there were so many trail names 😍 Now I have fun learning them, especially when the family is with me, it’s quite an invigorating experience & totally beats hearing them cry 😢 Anyhow, as this year comes to an end, my family & I are using @alltrails to locate easy to moderate hikes for us to do as a family. It was not quite what I had in mind for us, but at the same time it’s not realistic to expect my family to be able to hike up to a peak with me, at least not after some training so that’s where we are today, learning & experiencing on the #terraneadiscoverytrail 🌴🌺🌊 It’s super pretty here, I stayed here for one of my birthdays one year, it’s nice to come back & see what’s changed since 👐🏻👣 #terrenearesort#MothersmovemountainsTM
We had a great first full day of vacation! We got to enjoy Park Silly Sunday Market - a fun open air market full of local vendors. It was a blast but I got no pics! We went on an afternoon hike to acclimate to the altitude. The aspens are changing color and lake looked beautiful and clear. We took a trail that was pretty great but had to turn around about a mile or so in because it was “closed.” We went pretty far past the closed sign but made a decision to turn back because the terrain got pretty gnarly and I’m pretty pregnant😂. It was a great first day ending with dinner and Cardinal baseball.
