Boudoir sessions were the first sessions I took clients for.
A decade ago now. And this stunning lady was one of our first clients!
It started small and organically. I did the graphic designing of gifts for clients my roommate/friend would photograph - then took a few sessions myself.
Mostly what drove me to this work was the session I experienced as a model for my husband.
I’ve branched out to families, being a photographer beyond designer myself now, but I will never stop shooting these sessions and getting in them myself.
It was the first time I saw photos of myself and thought “Wow? Is that really me?!” Not in a vain way. I’m just not sure I had stopped to take the time to see or celebrate the pieces I love about my body.
And it happens for my clients every time.
We often cry over it.
It’s empowering and vulnerable and oh so rewarding.
It’s a bucket list item, even if it’s not with me. Sure, do it as a gift for someone else, it might also be a gift for you.
Ms. Kennedy debuted the Majesty 👑 color of the Nugget over on @nuggetcomfort!!! Isn't this the most regal slumber you have ever seen?! 😂 You should go check out her feature, and snag you one on black Friday!! 😁
When I began photography it was so I could capture our family and hopefully make family portraits a bit less painful for my husband 😂... this year our little one had different ideas, what matters is it captured us as we are right now and in that moment.
I am a sucker for beautifully planned and articulated portraits, but sometimes the magic is in the real moments.
Well as you know, I love Christmas and these kids have definitely followed in my footsteps, so what better thing to do on a snowy day like yesterday, than to write letters to Santa!🎅🏻 Ollie, as usual had to get in on the action.
Also-Hoorayyyyy! Thank you so so much to all of you who entered the mentorship giveaway - truly it means SO much to me to see how many people entered and honest to God I am honored.
The winner of the portfolio review is Jennifer Tate and the one hour of 1:1 is @manfella ! .
The winter light is coming and it's intense, perfect for capturing those quirky shadows all over the house.
Quick shoutout to the amazing @photoartbyjessica, this was edited using JM Authentic 10 (one click) 😍 I'll post a before and after in my stories.
3 weeks on...
And life is starting to return to normal. Little lady’s arrival took a huge toll on my body, but this week I’ve managed to regain a little normality. I managed to make it to the school run this week, where I was met by a very excited M, who exclaimed (across a crowded playground), “Mummy, you can walk!” So with the School routine back up and running, a visit to parents evening and a trip into town, I feel like it’s fair to say I’m ‘smashing it!’ - maybe not 😂 #csection#postpartum#mumlife
I'm scared I might get murdered any minute if I don't take him out of the house!! 😩
We have been locked inside for a while as the quality of the air is so bad since the #wildfire started! Today it seems like the worst day of all... I can't even see the mountains outside the window 😭
We are 80 miles away from it, and we are struggling... I can't even imagine how people who lost their homes are dealing with it... It's all so sad!
What are you guys doing to entertain yourself and little ones inside?
I decided to play with my camera and risked some #freelensed shots... Not so bad for my first time, ha? #canonfanphoto#tsj_indoor#fam_windowlight#fridayfeeling#thefreelensedproject
I bought a pack of 102 vinyl snowflakes on amazon. because a facebook ad told me to. and i’m a sucker for a holiday product that gives me false hope that my kids will engage in a quiet activity together peaceably. spoiler alert: they all fought over the identical sheets of stickers and argued over snowflake placement for 20 minutes. ❄️
We kicked mom and dad out of the bedroom and did some special photos to be a “surprise”. It’s a great way to get kids to relax and have more fun - when they think they’re in on a secret!! And then I look at these, and as a big sister myself all I can see is the secrets they will share and the fun they will have. And I can’t wait to document it all. ❤️❤️ .
We have spent so much of this year working on his fine motor skills. He could do some truly amazing things physically, but was kind of clueless when you handed him a crayon. We’ve come so far this year. He still doesn’t have much patience for coloring, but he’s getting there. 🖤 •

I am taking a wonderful Self Portrait Course with @ourkiddo and just completed one of our assignments to recreate a piece of art. If anyone is looking for a great class on self portraits I highly recommend Laura’s!
I feel that I have lived many lives, I'm sure this is true for most people. Before I was a mother and photographer I was a professional concert singer. I composed, performed and recorded for over 10 years. It was thrilling and hard.
I had just finished a concert tour, along the east coast of the United States, when I found out I was pregnant. I decided to take a break. My decision was made firm when we found out my husband was being transferred for his job and I had no desire to try and pull together new musicians to work with while caring for a newborn.
After my daughter was born I fell hard for photography and it gave me the artistic outlet I needed and allowed me to be home with her. While I have not given up music it plays a much lesser role in my life at the moment. When I stumbled across this painting I felt a kinship with this woman, she loves her music, yet she sit in solitude without an audience enjoying herself.
Hello! I'm @alydawnphoto Alyssa! This is a self portrait of me and my babe, breastfeeding. I've been wanting to create a hub like this for a while and finally got the courage to do it.
Tag your motherhood self portraits or motherhood images with #simplymothers for a chance to be featured. I want to celebrate all types of mother's!
In the future I will possibly start doing weekly themes, but for now, we'll keep it simple.
I want to feature beautiful Mama's. I want to feature their stories. I want to pass love all around. I want to make people feel loved. So start tagging and I'll start featuring 💞😊 for now this week, I'll feature some of my own motherhood work and then once I get going I'll feature all you beautiful Mama's! Let's build a community full of love and support for mothers everywhere. As a matter of fact, woman everywhere!
Tag a friend you think would LOVE this new hub. 💞
I will spam you some pictures of our last trip to Disney World!
I do not think I caught all Diego's excitement about this experience.
From the first moment on the plane to the last day there were many emotions! How nice is to live this experience through the eyes of your child.
It was a few days that we will never forget !!
I wanted to start off by saying, whatever way you feed your babies, you are AMAZING. You did what was best for you and your baby. And for that, you are an awesome mama. For me, what works best is breastfeeding. And although I 100% encourage breastfeeding for all new Mama's, I recognize that it's not the best option for everyone.
I'm so thankful for my body, for the amazing little person it created, for being able to feed that little person. Our bodies can do AMAZING things. I will miss this stage when it passes.
Catching up on #thankfulnovember18 - I'm thankful for my body, as well as my favorite color (that teal blue on my dress!). And this is my work. Taking care of that sweet little blonde. 💙 I'm so blessed!
"Shallow values produce empty victories." What are you reaching for? Maybe you aren't a dreamer, but we are all reaching for something. You might just be reaching for the remote or it might be designer jeans. You could be striving towards a better life for your kids or trying to be the CEO of the next big thing. There is nothing inherently wrong with any of those, but just realize you only have two arms. The number of things we can reach for is limited. Check your values, check your heart, and be sure that you are reaching in the right direction.
In my next life I’m coming back as a dog, because belly rubs seem like the freaking best.
And you won’t have to worry about the internet going out and realize how much we depend on it...especially as someone who works from home 😳. That and how much everyone in our house uses Alexa 🤪
