This wasp nest was exposed after a huge branch had fallen from a tree. No wasps left.
In the summer, you can hear them.munching on the wood of my parents' shed...to get the material to build their intricate little homes. Fascinating, and what incredible designs.
If it had been lower down and at risk of damage, I might have considered taking it home for preservation but it's far better that other people get to see it and enjoy it, and I'm sure nature will reclaim it in some way.
Not pictured: HOW FREEZING IT WAS. .
These two were such troopers tonight in the cloudy, windy weather that we got. There may or may not have been sweat pants and hunter boots that were peeled off right before photos actually started 🥶🙈 despite the cold, I had so much fun meeting and getting to know these two a little bit. It’ll be warmer on your wedding day, I just know it 😂🤞🏻
This bag of pastries are a tribute, not only to the Maison Villatte bakery, but also to the power of @chefdrewmoney ...
I was walking down the main drag in Falmouth, and decided to pop in for a croissant. A woman behind the counter saw my @littledonkeyboston hat, and grew excited, asking, “Do you know Drew?!”
After learning that she was a fan of Chef Drew, Colleen sent me on my way with the most wonderful assortment of goods, including a raspberry croissant that my friend saw and exclaimed, “THIS IS WHY I GO TO THIS BAKERY!”
This pain is killer. The pastries divine.
Popped up to the opening of World Illustration Awards 2018 at @falmouthartgallery tonight. There was a nice mix of work and it was cool to see the wide range of applications for illustration represented. My main take away however was that the current emerging styles in contemporary illustration aren't really my bag.
On the flip side I was pleasantly surprised to discover a small exhibition next door called 'War Stories'. It was fantastic to see the Canaries represented in this exhibition, especially with the Cornish connection. Lovely to see more of Stanhope Forbes' fantastic paintings in person, it is always fascinating to really study the works of masters up close, observe every brush stroke, every colour choice, every minute decision immortalised on canvas. It was also great to see some examples of Muirhead Bone's work in person, a draughtsman I have always admired.
It was hugely sobering to look at a map detailing the location of every body part of the unfortunate Canaries caught in a munition factory explosion in Hayle. "10. X Parts of face" "3. X Ladies foot"
"15. X Scalp"
