This is one of the ‘tag lines’ I regularly use with my patients when we are working on Depression. Why would a straight talking Yorkshire lass tell anyone to ‘fake it’ I hear you ask... ? 🤔The answer is simple. It is easier to ‘act’ your way out of Depression rather than ‘think’ your way out of it. Sitting and thinking about how bad you feel, rarely makes you feel better- it will often intensify symptoms 😓However if you can set yourself a small, achievable, behavioural goal (this might be brushing your teeth, reading 1
page of a book, texting/calling back a friend or getting a shower) and you commit to going ahead with it REGARDLESS of how you feel (this is the fake it part) then it is highly likely that it will make you feel better than you did (the make it part). Don’t wait to feel better before you tackle your goals, do them regardless. I am NOT a morning person. 😖
In fact, I keep my hoodie on and grunt at my husband if he talks to me in the early morning. 😂
I used to avoid getting up early because I didn't want to talk to anyone or see anyone. 💁♀️
But you know what? I had to realize that I was a much better person when I woke up early, 🏃♀️got my mindset right with meditation 🙏and visualization, then worked out💪.
I was READY to face the day being Proactive 👍 rather than being in Reactive mode!
I am a much NICER person because of this! You know the Nike logo "Just do It"? That's what I do in the morning. I don't over think it because if I do then I won't get up. But I still keep my hoodie on 🤪 .
