Day 4: Kitulgala
Stayed in the middle of Kitulgala on the riverside in little houses! We went river rafting on the Kelani River, which was a lot of fun! Will share some gopro footage later, for now we’re off to Nuwara Eliya, what they call the “Scottish highlands of Sri Lanka”. #Kitulgala#Srilanka#visitSriLanka#adventureisoutthere
Of the 4 great Kings of Zagwe dynasty one decided the greatest show of his faith Was to carve 11 churches from nothing but rock,
While 23 years he stayed in a tent.
King Lalibela, reigned from 1181- 1221 and His legacy as solid as the 'living rock' monolithic churches that still stand to this day.
1. Biete Giyorgis (Church of St. George)
2. Portrait of Mary and Jesus in Biete Maryam (House of Mary)
3. The priest at Biete Meskel (House of the Cross)
4. Portrait of the 4 Kings; Lalibela is 2nd from right with white beard
5. Biete Medhane Alem (House of the Savior of the World) ; considered the largest monolithic church in the world
6. Biete Gabriel-Rufael (House of the Angels Gabriel and Raphael)
The men and women who carry the most joy are the ones who had to fight for it. It’s the ones who remember the depths of where they came from. We climb mountains because we know there’s a better view up there. Pure joy is rooted in perseverance. It’s learning how to smile and care about other people even in the middle of a storm. Joy is the outward expression of inner satisfaction. It’s knowing you’ve done the right thing. It’s knowing that you’re living a radical life, 100% sold out for the will of God. Joy is not prideful or arrogant, and it does not isolate. The spirit of joy is the fruit of knowing Jesus. If you see a person carrying great joy, it’s because he has persevered. It’s because she stood up to fear and walked straight through it. It’s because we know that God is bigger than our battles and we’re only being developed to stand with Him throughout eternity. Joy takes courage. 👊
Rain or shine or smoke, I’m excited to start off my 26th year on Friday in the mountains hiking and backpacking. A sneak peak of what’s to come: Mount Temple, Wates&Gibson Hut, Assiniboine (Abbots Pass Hut was cancelled due to a slide on the Alberta side of the hut). Send coffee - have to get everything I need done by Thursday. I don’t think I’ve ever been off the grid for this long before! #mondaymotivation#mountainmonday 💨 ⛰
