This little kitty of mine snuggled me like a champ during this week when I felt knocked down DEAD due to stomach flu. 🤦‍♀️ Today I was able to resume *most* of my regularly scheduled activities! (I have yet to get a legit workout in this week, but my body is rebuilding strength from missing out on food for almost two days!) Since I’ve made many lifestyle changes, I rarely get sick (thank you #superfoods) so it was really hard for me being knocked down like that. I think I binged enough Netflix to hold me over for the rest of this year! 🤷‍♀️ In any case, it just reminded me once again how important it is to take care of our bodies for our overall HEALTH! It reminded me how grateful I am that I GET TO move my body and exercise every day. I don’t have to, I GET TO! 🙋‍♀️ Why not you too?! If you have had some insulin with food in the last 60-120 minutes there is a bigger chance you may go low during the exercise. Think, do you need some extra carbohydrate before you start?
If the pre exercise blood glucose is 8mmol/L or below you are more likely to need extra carbohydrate to prevent a low.
If the blood glucose level is 14mmol/L or more do you need to check for ketones? If you know you have eaten in the last 60 -120 minutes and taken some insulin then you should be ok to just monitor, if you have not eaten/taken any insulin in the last 60-120 minutes check for ketones and follow the advice from your diabetes team. Yeah, people really do treat you differently after you lose weight. I went to a fair a month or so ago. I swear people kept staring at me. You know what's embarassing? Not being able to fit on rides because of being obese or doing fun things. It really sucked having to ask ride operators at amusement parks for an extra belt. I also have never wore at two piece. I wonder what that's like. I guess we'll find out soon. But yeah, weight loss is great. I recommend it. It's about health but the confidence boost that comes from weight loss is great. I loathe running in the rain. But oddly enough, today it was really refreshing. .

Maybe it’s because it’s been so humid and hot this week. Or maybe it’s been too long since we’ve actually seen rain (it’s been so dry in California). Either way, I’m glad we went out of my comfort zone and got out there anyway. It felt amazing. .

What is something you’re uncomfortable with? Do you hate running? Do you think you’ll look stupid in Zumba class? Love your new leggings but afraid to wear them in public? We’ve only got so many f***’s to give in our lifetime. Stop giving them out like they’re candy and try something new. Go out of your comfort zone. I bet you’ll be so happy you did. •

One of my best friends has been relentlessly lobbying for me to go to hot yoga with her - for a while - and she finally got me there.

Honestly, I thought I was going to hate it, but I'll go back again. I didn't make it through the whole routine without taking breaks, but I pushed myself as hard as I could; I just couldn't breathe!

Flexibility wasn't as much an issue as I thought it would be. I mean, I couldn't do (obviously) some of the more advanced variations that other people were doing, but I felt flexible enough to get immediately better. 
I struggled with balancing on anything that involved one leg, except the dancer pose; I felt like I did that one pretty good.

My biggest issue was breathing. Obviously, it's really hot and humid in the room; and not knowing the routine and having to concentrate so much on balance took concentration away from  my breathing. If you've been living under a rock, breathing is key to yoga, and any other exercise!!! I feel like I should hydrate better the day before... I'll be back. Next time I'll do a little better.
