I took this photo 21 months ago as we sat in the hospital car park waiting for our #ivf#embryotransfer . We knew it was our last chance with ivf. I didn't think it was going to work and if you told me that I'd spend the next 21 months pregnant with a 3 month gap in between I'd have told you that you were mad! I honestly still pinch myself and can't believe I have a beautiful 11 month old tucked up in the bedroom across the hall and tomorrow morning I'll be heading off to hospital to be induced with my second and last baby. I'm so ready to meet her and introduce her to her big sister. You’ve all hear the saying #absaremadeinkitchen - what this means is you won’t have a lean midsection unless you have low body fat. A lot of #personaltrainers will tell you either to do #abtraining to make your #abs look better (but if they don’t help you correct your #macros to help you lose fat you know they’re talking out their arses #excusemyfrench ) or most others say there’s no need to train them as they’re already there. We want to clear up this huge misconception.
If you want a midsection that’s lean with some muscle tone, YES you’ll need to have lower #bodyfat percentage - they’re nicely visible between 10-12% for women, and for men around 6-8%. This is done through following a proper tailor-made #mealprep program. The only people who may have visible abs without “even trying” are those who are genetically “skinny” and in the physique building world, we say #absdontcountonaskinnyguy like #boobsdontcountonafatchick - it’s awful but you catch the drift.
If you want abs that are visible or what most of us refer to as the “6pack” - with visible blocks - you WILL need to train them just like any other muscle - you need to place stress on them to build up a little size to give it shape. .
So no, a toned lean midsection isn’t achieved by doing hundreds of reps of ab exercises—crunches OR planks. Neither is it achieved by spending hours sweating it out doing #cardio based programs no matter how intense or effective they are at burning calories. You can train your abs till the cows come home and nothing will happen unless your #diet is in check.
If you don’t train your #abdominal muscles specifically, all you’ll see is a flat surface minus the fat (see pic for comparison🙈😬) In conclusion, how your abs muscles form depends entirely on the training you put them through. How “lean” or “fat” your midsection looks depends 100% on diet. .
