This is Kerid Crater, a big ole hole in the ground dating back 6500 years 😱🌎 We got here just as the sun was setting so it was getting dark and definitely a little chilly ❄️ but the Mars-like landscape was even more stunning in the dimming light.
Scientists originally thought this was an explosion crater, created by impact, but now believe it was created by a magma chamber beneath it that then erupted.
I’m no science person, but I think learning about this kind of stuff when you get to see just how massive and impressive it is in real life makes a difference.
