Disney themed math groups...yes please! I’m very pleased with how the rotations have been going. I feel like it’s so much better for my kiddos!! Click the link in my bio to get the tools I use and find out exactly what goes on.
What Eureka looks like on the weekend even at the principal's house! First grade Eureka, 5th grade Eureka and 7th grade Eureka. Trust the process and use the resources. It works! #dupvillage#eurekamath#graduate#apsbschools
Exploration stations! We started learning about units of weight and hoping these exploration stations will help my 3rd graders understand and be able to estimate the weight of familiar objects in grams
Eureka math is tough to teach. It’s long and the kids have to sit and listen for most of it. My coworker and I revamped it this week and so far I’m loving it! We still do the Application Problem and concept development whole group. After the kids break up in to two groups (Disney Heroes and Villains of course!) and one stays with me and one works on Zearn and fluency. It gives me a chance to really make sure the kids understand what I’m teaching and gives them time to practice independently/in partners. I’m hoping the first two days weren’t just a fluke! #180DaysOfFirstGrade
Reflecting on small moments from last week. I had my first observation. We learned place value. We’ve been learning how to write a paragraph, how to use quotation marks, and about Ancient Greek Civilizations (their favorite part has been Greek mythology). I welcomed 2 new students to my class (I’m now considered an inclusion teacher and I get an assistant about an hour every day which is awesome) 💙 while I’m always tired and sometimes doubting myself, I feel like I’m doing something right because teaching these little people make me so happy!
Tomorrow we get to go to CALI! Besides working on spelling lists and reading. This is our first time for homework. The wording this year makes MUCH more sense to me.. 😂🤣 I guess I just wasn't built for those kindergarten packets, I'd over think them wayyy too much 🤔🤓.
Just after 1 month of starting school, she's really impressed me!! 💞👧
So I think I’m a pretty reasonable mom. Therefore my kid can’t watch tv during the week. He did a challenge last night & earned 45 minutes of tv time. We started off regrouping two digit numbers and ended up working three. Take away what they like & fill in what they need. Tonight is a book report. They have to do reflective writing now to pass. #school#eurekamath#gradeschool#kid#math#mom#homeschool
Last week we did without all the “cute” seasonal pencils, and just stopped messing around and got the @ticonderoga_pencil pencils ✏️ for homework. Because 1st grade HW at @ideaschools is no joke. We had to constantly stop with the other pencils, probably 5x to switch it or sharpen it because graphite would break 🤯 thanks @jenmvaldez for the fab @utrgv swag that we actually use
🤙🏼 ps. special thanks to the hubs for doing the math part of the HW with Razzy because, well math & I just don’t mix. I’ve got your back in all the reading, writing, anatomy, astronomy, social studies, journalism, volunteering, & keeping your wardrobe stylish baby girl. Just don’t come to me with this new #eurekamath . I still haven’t gotten the hang of the vintage math 🤣
Math talk is super important during your math block. I find it just as academically challenging as completing the math equation itself. Students need to be able to explain, defend and question their thinking. They also need to think critically about other students work. Math wasn’t my favorite subject as a child, but it has easily become one of my favorite subjects to teach as an adult!
What do you do with students math talk? #math#eurekamath#mathtalk#criticalthinking @hangingwithmrshulsey
