This small desert light and texture study was one of a series of experiments drawn as the evening light faded, searching for those moments when the environmental conditions become more intense and the air gets very cold. The intention was to find a more abstract way of seeing the landscape, capturing the movement of light and shade through constantly overlaying and building the darkness of the image up as the light levels dropped. I wanted the piece to grow into itself as a study and not be held by formal or literal constraints.
Working in the desert is about physically feeling the conditions in the moment as well as responding to what you see.
