I’ve taken Ls and won trophies...🎶 Word to @officialwretch32.
2017 started off an absolute madness, and has had more in between. Through all, God has been merciful, graceful and given me some of the best moments of my life thus far.
2018 less Ls, more... 📝🔵🔵
A little peek into Birmingham film festival Gala on the 25th November, for those who could not make it. Thanks @deancrazylegs finally getting all these glamorous pictures from @bhamfilmfest and @transitionstagecompany was a sponsor ! I think my New Years resolution is not to laugh so hard with my mouth so open, it’s so ungracious, can’t believe the photographer snap the picture from the other side of the room, but It’s hard not to laugh so hard when you have very funny friends. A great night for Birmingham ❤️🙏🏽 Thank you @deancrazylegs @rotundafilms for letting me and my guests be a part of it.
Photocredit @studioyoung.co thanks for catching the moments
I have done two talks in a ten days and have been ask to speak for the biggest actor and creative Union in the UK today, considering I am not a public speaker, this Brummie keeps getting requests.
Positivity is infectious, and I always want to hear stories of success and inspiration loved talking about @transitionstagecompany @mybcu for the English writing careers seminar
Met some fantastic creatives and contacts hope to see some hungry creatives at @transitionstagecompany workshop
I was pretty nervous in choosing scripts from the hundreds of hopefuls that submitted through #enterstagewrite being dyslexic I always thought in the back of my mind am I doing the right thing.
I wanted @abeislegend script in my show so bad I called him up frantically with my strong Brummie accent (he could barely understand me) asking to make a slight Casting change, he agreed thank god, he won the show and he has gone from strength to strength!!! I just love watching people prosper
Sometimes you need to have utter belief in what you do. I’m absolutely over the moon with his progress what an inspiration !!! Keep putting yourself out there @abeislegend and winning ! Come through with that #BAFTA

So, the cat’s finally out the bag. Remember my Jude Law post, and that thing Jude knew?
Well this was it, I’ve received my first commission for a full-length play as part of Dangerous Spaces, a theatre project that will address the lack of multidimensional roles for actresses.
So excited and honoured to be a part of this, and can’t wait to meet the actresses and get down to work.
On a personal note, I’m also especially honoured to be alongside @vinayskpatel. A few years ago, frustrated with my lack of progress, I looked up some writers a couple of years ahead of me, looked at their CVs to see all the things they’d done to get to where they were and started applying for all of them left, right and centre. One of those writers was Vinay (the other was @dela_who). So, a few years on and Vinay is now BAFTA-nominated and killing it, and I continue to be inspired by his journey and looking forward to meeting him, and the rest of these wonderfully talented writers.
Thank you so much Nastazja Somers and Barbara Houseman! ❤️📝
One day I will work with this dude legend
Just putting it out in the universe 🙏🏽

#TBT My first day ever of acting shooting "The Mummy Returns". Middle of the Sahara Desert. 115+ degrees. The entire first 10min of the movie was based on my character named The Scorpion King, so no pressure... I was told "don't use ice in your drinks when you go over there". Of course like a know it all idiot in my 20's, the first thing I do when I land is ask for ice in my soda.
Woke up the next day - my first day of shooting and was as sick as a mangy junkyard dog. I was so sick I literally had things coming out of my body I could not identify, nor have I ever seen since. Just let that fun visual sink in... Went to set and powered thru. In between the action sequences, the crew would have to cover me in blankets because I was shivering cold - and again, we were in the middle of the f*cking Sahara Desert. I remember thinking to myself while covered up in blankets, "Wow my very first movie and I'm gonna kick the bucket in the middle of the desert. Great job DJ." Director Stephen Summers came over and asked if he should call a helicopter to transport me to the hospital. I said "Nah, let's shoot". We got the shots we needed that day to successfully tell the movie's story. And the ironic part of that crazy day in the desert of me pushing thru my pain (which could've easily gone horribly wrong;), was little to my knowledge - a few days later Universal Studios watched the footage from that day (Ron Meyer, Stacey Snider, Kevin Misher and Scott Stuber) and said "We should make a movie based off of Rock's character, The Scorpion King." That's exactly what we did. Got lucky, the movie broke box office records and it launched my career.
Push thru your pain, 'cause sometimes there's great success on the other side.
Even if you can't identify what's exiting your body. Fun. ✔️
