I love routine and thrive off of it. It’s often more difficult for me to take a few days away from my everyday life than it is to be disciplined on a normal basis. I love seeing my family and enjoying all the traditions with them, so around the holidays or on other special occasions, I put my routine aside to enjoy some time with them. I always take a week at thanksgiving and then a week at Christmas. Mentally it can be a huge challenge for me. I struggle with potentially not going to the gym on the days I normally do or not having access to the right type of equipment etc., I battle with myself mentally about not eating at specific times and having the perfectly measured portions of protein, carbs, and fat, I struggle to not check my work email every 30 minutes or answer immediately if a work text or phone call comes through, my sleep schedule gets all out of sorts because I’m traveling etc. Despite all of that, it’s more than important to take this time, when I take a step away the trade off is incredible: spending quality time with my family and friends, eating delicious food that I don’t normally indulge in, participating in traditions, celebrating exciting milestones (like my sister’s engagement!), and in the end it actually recharges me to come back to my routine feeling rested and ready to focus. After this last week of eating, celebrating, and relaxing, I’m rested, I’m focused, and I feel like I’m ready to hit the ground running until Christmas! 🎄
