The value of sport and recreation facilities to local government and communities extends beyond sport and recreation activities alone. It can play a role in bringing communities together, provide a positive social and cultural impact and assists in developing social capital.
The Park Lands plays host to many vibrant sporting clubs. Yesterday saw the announcement of an upgrade to the Adelaide Comets and Western districts athletics facilities on Ellis park. This investment follows $24 million in funding from State Government to support building female-friendly facilities at sporting clubs, and $7.7 million to upgrade netball facilities in the parklands and Priceline stadium along with a $10 million commitment to construct artificial pitches and other facilities at clubs across the State. Upgrades to football facilities in the West Parklands will also aim to meet the sports growing demand.
These upgrades will also host the many schools and community groups who share these spaces.
