Oh. My. God!!! I can't believe I'm in! But yeah, I'm in! First day of #rekindlememories , and I can post a very very quick sketch of the first thing I saw in front of me. I'm very happy to be here and can't wait to see what you guys posted... Let's see if I can post tomorrow... but one step at a time, and I'm happy for today...
We are under an excessive heat warning today. Currently, it’s 99 degrees F, but feels like 110. The dew point is 71 degrees. So basically, it’s oppressive, disgusting and dangerous. There’s something about heat like this that creates a kind of stillness, a lethargy that spreads like a contagious disease. No one wants to move – humans, animals or even the plants. The air is so thick, it almost feels as if you’re literally walking through water to get anywhere (just not as refreshing). I wanted to try to find a way to represent it for today’s daily page but struggled to come up with an idea. And then I pulled out the summer @artbentobox and found just the supplies I needed. The colors of the papers, the Holbein water soluble crayon and the Elegant Writer pen were the perfect representation of the invisible inferno blazing in the air outside. I doodled drops of flames with the pen and crayon, but when I went to drop water on the crayon, I accidentally dropped it on the pen too. I watched as the burnt red bled out of the lines and dripped a haze of fire down the page. Then I dropped water on all of the pen and crayon flames and watched them all melt. They looked the way I felt every time I walked outside today – on fire, soaking wet and melting at the same time. I hope we get relief soon. I hope the skies open up and all this moisture evacuates to the ground and goes into hiding so that I can escape my hiding spot inside my house and breathe air that doesn’t ignite my lungs on impact. I’m going to look back on this page in 6 months when it’s 30 below zero and there is a foot of snow on the ground and hope that I’ve captured some of today’s heat in the fibers of the paper. And maybe, when I open my journal, the heat will escape and give me relief instead of pain. 🤣180/365.
My very FIRST face EVER drawn. Yes, I totally copied Marta's image she made with the Elegant Writer. She is a HUGE inspiration to me and I was intimidated to draw a face on my own.
My kids say she looks like a mix between the Corpse Bride and Madusa. Hahaha
