So this is just the start of what #eczema looks like 48 or more hours after eating #eggs . Often painful water blisters that swell over the course of a week. And this is a small amount consumed. A sliver of aioli on a sandwich or drizzle of sauce with eggs on a salad.
If I continue to eat eggs, my feet and hands would be covered in this and my stomach and head would feel like I went on a drinking binge. Sometimes I get shortness of breath too but not as often thankfully.
I post this because I want to remind restaurants how important it is to add top allergy ingredients to their menu descriptions. If you put mayo on or in something, that should be listed in the item description. If you use egg white in a drink, list it. If your salad dressing uses egg yolk, add that. The biggest one I mistakingly eat is mayo because people just forget it has eggs all the time or it is not added to the description depending on how it fits or looks on the menu page. Design is so important.
I could ask and often do but that then becomes a moment of “you’re gonna be a picky customer aren’t you”. I can see that look in their eye and it deters me despite my best judgement. Having worked in the industry myself, I worry about overburdened staff. I will rarely ask that an item come without xyz because I am aware there is a flavor balance that would be lost without it. When I DO ask, I am often surprised at how little staff knows about their own food they serve. A simple question of “Does this have eggs in it?” Might have to be clarified with ...”or mayo” since servers often think of eggs as the breakfast variety and not an ingredient mixed into breads, pastas, sauces and desserts. I will say no eggs and often times they assume no dairy either, so I get a bland and dry meal.
My illness is not the worst it can be. Mine is considered an “intolerance” but imagine if I had a true allergy. I wouldn’t be able to eat out at all and that is a sad thought for someone who enjoys food and the restaurant culture as much as I do.
Help people like me enjoy your food by being a tiny bit more transparent on the ingredients. I want to spend my money on your food without being an ass. #foodallergies
Time flies and its been all about work lately. For some reason I was craving ketchup yesterday!? Something must be wrong.. I never eat it so find quite strange, was tasty though. 🙈🙊🤓
