Last week's post regarding my own diet struggles & ice cream 😔 prompted a good response between myself and my clients (Not only did they realise I'm human after all and can be naughty 😂😋) we talked about how it affected them and how it helped them identify their weak points and focus on the best way to resolve these. Identifying the cause is the 1st step! It was a great topic to cover because as hard as they train the nutrition side is the toughest one to adhere to! Too many temptations especially in the school holidays with young ones demanding sweets & treats 😕 then there's the holidays! Once we fall into a pattern of consistency it's easier to stick to these healthier habits long term thus maintaing the weight loss and not slipping back into to unhealthy eating 👌
Learning to eat when you're hungry is another topic I've been covering. Most of us sit down with a cup of tea and feel we need a biscuit or two to go with it? Or reach for a snack without thinking because we think we are hungry. But have you ever really thought about hunger and how it really feels? Are you really hungry or have you just stopped and thought I feel hungry? Feeling hungry and actually being hungry can be hard to define. Look at the difference between hunger and appetite. Identify yours? Is your stomach actually rumbling or are you bored? Learn to tell the difference and it can have a huge impact on your fitness and diet goals as well as your healthier lifestyle.
Are you really hungry or you are thirsty???? Have you had enough water after you ate or even drank something including something as simple as a buttermilk or fruit juice that needs some digestive enzymes from the system ??? There is one other thing that will support you in your efforts to eat only when you are hungry and stop as soon as you even suspect you are full.

Hunger is actually the preliminary effects of dehydration. This is one of the reasons why sometimes no matter what you eat, it doesn’t feel as though it ‘hits the spot’. Because it’s virtually impossible to tell the difference between this ‘thirst signal’ and authentic hunger, it’s a good idea to make your first response to hunger pangs a fresh glass of water. If you’re not hungry afterwards, it was thirst; if you still are, dig in!

I have one rule: eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full. Easy right? No 🙄. It look me so long to learn how to be in tune with my hunger and fullness cues. After years of restricting, dieting, avoiding carbs, liquid detoxes, diet pills i finally am freed by just affirming myself to “eat when im hungry and stop when im full”. I dont need a diet or food rules to help me maintain my body weight and i feel free knowing how much to eat by simply listening to my body.
I’m down another 1.5 lbs this week! This is not easy, however, this is something I need to do for myself. I’m tired of the way some people look at me in disgust. I’m tired of sitting in some chairs to have them dig into my thighs to where it hurts. I’m so ready for this change in my life and I welcome it. I never refer to my first meal of the day as ‘breakfast’, it is simply the ‘first meal of the day’, it can come at any time and I eat it when I am hungry. I eat until I feel full and then get on with my day. There is no need to get up and spoon cereal down your neck before you leave the house if you don’t feel like it. Kellogg’s are very good at telling you it’s important but you need to think about it yourself and listen to your body. How do you look at that cookie? 🍪
The way you look at food can change the way you eat (diet vs. non-diet). Try looking at food in the perspective that food is food and accept the fact that cookies are delicious! When look at food in a positive way, it frees us to eat what we want when we want. Its all about how you look at it!
In a group fitness class this morning I heard a woman say ‘I eat chocolate every night because I feel I deserve it, not because I’m hungry’ and I totally get where she’s coming from.
But what makes us think we deserve food? Really food isn’t an emotion, it’s a requirement yet it seems often the two are so easily muddled.
Hopefully this will help me get a little more insight as to why.

When you are thinking about food, reaching for food, or eating, you are one of three things: - You are hungry.
- You are thirsty.
- You are seeking Dopamine.
As the lovely #chefaj oft reminds her devoted audience... If you are hungry enough to eat vegetables; especially with little or no seasoning, then you are hungry. Cool, eat.
Wanting to eat something, urgently, but know you ate not long ago? Never hurts to take a sip of water and see what happens.
Seeking dopamine actually covers the entire reason that we eat. Our brain has to tell us that this is a “good thing” other wise we never would have survived on planet earth. But what I mean here is that we are seeking something other than satisfying hunger. If the plain veg, maybe plain brown rice, doesn’t sound like an appealing idea, then just note, you aren’t actually hungry. And you know what? That’s not to call it evil or lazy… it’s just a fact, and you need to notice it before you can start to shift anything about it. ~ Go on, empower your healthy self ~ .
I eat once or twice a day WITHOUT snacking. And tend to have a little bit more of healthy fats at dinner to keep me full longer; allows me to fast for 20 hours. I listen to my body and eat when I’m hungry. Benefits of IF - reduces exposure to insulin; high amounts of insulin cause fat storage. Breastmilk is the best nutrition for your baby. If youre able to breast feed as a new mother, do it! So many people look down on breastfeeding- its a boob people! You dont hide when you eat so dont make the baby do the same.
