Marketeers are doing an excellent job, making you think you’re making a better choice by choosing the ‘real vegetable chips’ when in fact you’re not. They are kinda the same... Just see for yourself, the differences in calories and nutrients are negligible 🤷🏼‍♀️Vegetable chips do contain a bit more fibre than the regular potato chips, but let’s be honest we don’t need to get our fibre from chips, do we 🙈

You wake up every day and look in the mirror.

Staring back at you is a tired, mentally drained, hurting face.

To make this you need:

200g pitted dates
50g walnuts
50g cashew nuts
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla essense 
3 tbsp maple syrup
50-100g cocoa nibs for coating

Method: add everything apart from cacao nibs to food processor and combine until well mixed. Remove and shape into 12-16 small balls using a spoon to aid you. Put in fridge for 30 mins to harden. Remove from fridge and cover with cacao nibs. #recipe #cacaonibs #energyball

Last night was one of the scariest moments of my life. I thought I was losing my super hero. So many times in the black community we put health on the back burner and credit poor choices to hereditary pre-existing conditions that we can’t avoid. What we eat is a direct reflection of how we view ourselves. The tradition of comfort food has worked its way into our identity as a necessity as opposed to its true form... A vice.

A vice that is limiting our productivity and taking some of our closest and dearest. As black men we brush off many warnings that this vice is destroying us until it’s too late. I vow to break this cycle as I am also guilty of making poor food choices. And I vow to break this cycle with my brother and dad together.

We were able to laugh through this ordeal because we took the necessary steps to prevent the worst, but the thought of losing my dad shook me to tears and reminded me that I have to do better to be here fo my boys as well. WE ALL NEED TO DO BETTER.

PLANT PROTEIN SOURCES & ANIMAL PROTEIN SOURCES ⠀
All proteins are made up of amino acids, the amount and type of each amino acid however varies based on the protein source. ⠀

When eaten, protein is broken down into amino acids. These amino acids are classified as either essential OR non-essential.

It is vital that you get essential amino acids via your diet because your body cannot produce them. Non-essential amino acids however  can be produced by the body and obtained from dietary sources.

✅You can get protein from both plant and animal sources!

Animal protein sources are considered to be complete sources of protein because they provide all essential amino acids needed by the body to function optimally.
Plant protein sources are considered to be incomplete. There are however some exceptions such as quinoa, chia seeds, hemp seeds and soy products (edamame, tempeh, tofu) which provide all 9 essential amino acids.

As always variety is key since both animal and plant foods provide other important nutrients, if you aren’t following a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle, incorporate balanced amounts of both sources into your diet! ⠀

- persimmon cut into cubes, mixed with cinnamon AND sea salt
- quark with vanilla 7%
- blueberries
- granola, preferably with cinnamon
Serve it in a beautiful glass. Not a singel person hasn’t loved this dessert ☺️

🌿🌿🌿Homemade vinegar🌿🌿
Vinegar is a good way to preserve herbs and spices and also has lots of health benefits. A high-quality vinegar is good for digestion, strenghens the intestinal flora and is therefore also good for our metabolism. 
For my mixtures I used an organic white wine vinegar. 🌿🌿
Rosemary vinegar (250ml)
A small hand full of rosemary leaves, 1 clove of garlic, 3 peppercorns. I cut the rosemary leaves and the garlic, so that the vinegar can extract more of the healthy ingredients. Rosemary strenghtens and stimulates. 🌿🌿
Terragon-coriander vinegar
Here I put in some leaves from both herbs. It is a little taste-experiment. :-) Both herbs have a regulating effect on the stomach and are good for digestion. 
Both vinegars have to rest 2-4 weeks now in the kitchen. Then you can filter them through a coffee filter.

🇹🇭 Another great thing about travelling in Thailand: the food!😁 We ate outside 2-3 times a day. In Bangkok as often as possible in the street kitchens and later in the not-tourist restaurants. There you get original food from mama and it is so cheap. Street kitchen: 0,80€-1,10€ for one meal and in the restaurants from around 1,50€ to 3€. Thai food for breakfast? I didn't think, I could do that, but it worked.😉 But I have to admit that after 4 weeks I was looking forward to some variations in the food again. The first thing we ate here was a big and fresh salad.😃
