«THE FEMALE GAZE» is a project curated for @aaltointernational by @thecommunityparis with the aim to highlight the work of female talents who interpret Finnishness and all things Finnish from their own perspective.
“When I tie a rock, I observe and take in its form, its rhythm, its body, its size, its volume and its relation to its surroundings. But this process doesn’t end there: it reflects back onto myself. I become aware of my own being, of my physicality and of the limitations I possess as a living being. When I bond the rock, I become aware of my own body. I notice how tall I am, how strong I am. Bondage serves as a physical experience that enhances the awareness of myself and of the possibilities I have. I notice how a rock can be too high and too steep for me to climb.” 🖤
“Life”. Encaustic (Beeswax) on wood. This remains one of my fav paintings. Every morning I look at it as I getting out of bed. It’s a reminder that even when “bad” things happen the final story may be be “good” or in this case amazing. At least to me. At a Summer art show this piece was subjected to hours of sitting in direct sunlight ( my fault and a complete no-no when displaying Wax paintings. My bad. ( even an oil painting would have melted in that heat ). The end result was this lesson in art and life that to me reflects the relationship between myself and the nature. Everything here is organic. And even the sun played a major role in the creation or perhaps “ evolution “ of “Life”. Look for a series of paintings where I get back to my Encaustic art by collaborating with nature. I have never experienced anything so just GUH I’m speechless.
White light circle at the heart of a whale.
It completely floored me when I saw these whale rib bones being set as a part of this alter made from flowers and found objects it was one of the most beautiful intense awe inspiring ways to spend a Saturday evening with such beloved people. When we removed the alter the shape of the snake stayed on the wooden floor boards✨✨✨✨✨🙏 #earthart#alter#circle#powerful#whale#snake#love#peace#spirit#motherearth#gratitude#whitelight#beings

“I want to get under the surface. When I work with a leaf, rock, stick, it is not just that material in itself, it is an opening into the processes of life within and around it. When I leave it, these processes continue."(Unknown)
“Earth art, also referred to as Land art or Earthworks, is largely an American movement that uses the natural landscape to create site-specific structures, art forms, and sculptures. The movement was an outgrowth of Conceptualism and Minimalism: the beginnings of the environmental movement and the rampant commoditization of American art in the late 1960s influenced ideas and works that were, to varying degrees, divorced from the art market. In addition to the monumentality and simplicity of Minimalist objects, the artists were drawn to the humble everyday materials of Arte Povera and the participatory "social sculptures" of Joseph Beuys that stressed performance and creativity in any environment.” (Source: The Art Story: Modern Art Insight”)
M U D. So I’m pretty sure I want to make something with earth here at Beech Hill.. Mungo and Iona are creating something from this earth, so I want to do that too, to reflect their work and vision. But ALWAYS my problem is ‘what’. The ‘how’ already has me hooked, big paper, outside, get messy and muddy. But it’s just marks until there’s subject matter.. right? #markmaking#abstract#crisisofconfidence#permaculture
