1992 BMW 325is. It was my daily driver, track car, and autocrosser. This pic was from the 2005 Nationals where I finished 3rd in the nation. Lost to a much more powerful 330i and a WRX...in the rain. Had 199,000 miles on the clock, too. It was a great car! Like many of my cars this one was purchased by a friend and then made its way to California. This was right before @vorshlag_motorsports got started. Sold a couple months after this event for a newer, more powerful E36 before I did some soul searching and quit racing. #vorshlag#bmw#stx#e36#scca#autocross#soloii#solo2
Along with the Golden Gate, one of my absolute 'to dos' for the trip was to head out to a race track. With the massive amount of people and money, the American track culture is a somewhat different experience. Comparing it to NZ's, there's a lot more willingness to give it a go, no matter what you're driving. While I'd say a big part of that would be cost and accessibility: having a regular multi-hour trip, because the closest track is two hours away (5+ for any others), then including the sky-high fuel prices, it does make sense.
Bimmer Challenge, @vtecclubusa - these are series that prove you don't need a separate car as a track car, a massive budget or even something quick to enjoy yourself, while also being competitive. I think with more of these, we'd see a far bigger upsurge of a younger enthusiast, because as it stands, it comes across as something for the rich, or able- being able to track their 50k Skyline race car that they spent five years building, instead of just getting out there in whatever you've got. Getting some experience is better than no experience- and you can't really expect to be one of the people you look up to if you cut corners for the process along the way.
The ///M3 has been on more flatbeds than i care to admit. Towed this babe so much I had to go out and get a real daily driver and pick up a Camry. One of the best feelings I've had is looking around and stating I wanted the car on the showroom floor. My cars give me life and they're a part of all my best memories. I've had too many cars in my short life and by far my favorite is tweety. Having a car that tried killing me brought the best out of me and I honestly loved every second of it. It's always hard to describe the relationships I have with my cars but to summarize it in a few words, they're my best friends. Threw in the random pic of me cause why not?
I have died too many times
believing and waiting, waiting
in a room
staring at a cracked ceiling
wating for the phone, a letter, a knock, a sound... going wild inside
while she danced with strangers in nightclubs... out of the arms of one love
and into the arms of another
it's not pleasant to die on the cross,
it is much more pleasant to hear your name whispered in
the dark. -Bukowski
