“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds that you plant.” - Robert Louis Stevenson
Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. I used to tell my grandma when I was little that I wanted to be as big as a sunflower when I grew up because they grew so tall... I mean they seemed to, to tiny me 😂
Nobody ever talks about though, in order to grow into a beautiful sunflower, you have to go through some dirt. 🌻

2016 was the test • 2017 was the planning and preparation • 2018 is the beginning of the marathon •• Take time to do a little self evaluation and decide who fits into these categories: those who you are carrying: not adding anything to your life or contributing to the grind, but reaping all the benefit • those who are connected for the benefit: selfish, users and abusers who are only connected to you for your blind loyalty • those who are building with you: not afraid to get in the mud bc they see your potential not as a personal profit, but as a friend who wants to see all their friends succeed ••• Hard work is a 2-way street • you get out what you put in || #KES#grind366#dynastybuilding#blackmagic#marathon#inspiration#liveonpurpose#loveonpurpose#livelaughlove#begreat#beamazing#becompassionate#beawesome

Too many inspiring people... Haba... You got to love the Nigerian young person.. Resilient!
I so love this years theme #nigeriasnewtribe
What are you doing tonight?
Been out of Lagos does this to me.. Relax!
How was traffic in Lagos today?
While internal reviews are coming up for my organization again,
I am guessing
most companies do the 6 months review. I wanted to share my story and lesson learned!
One half-year review, I shot myself in the foot!
I was very distracted at the time of the review that I absentmindedly scored myself lower.
By the time I realized whatwas happening, the window to contest scores were closed and I couldn't do anything about it!
I, however, had to wonder why I let that happen to me, I have dealt with that and wanted to share with others so you get better results: ⏩Mindset: Besides the fact that I was distracted with mummy issues around the time, I had a mindset of just do as you are told, the same mindset from Nigerian University Lecturers where what they scored you was final, never contest the scores! ⏩Documentation: At the time, I didn't do my own tracking and record keeping of my activities such that I would have been easier to translate my activities into checklists for my KPI ⏩Talk with your Manager ahead of the time for feedback: Trust me that used to hard for me, I always felt my up-line manager didn't really like me, guess what?
I didn't know his communication style! Now, I just ask for feedback ahead of the time!
Try these and share what your results... Even if your up-line is a hard nut, you cannot argue with data!
All the best in the forthcoming Reviews! 📷 is of my colleagues at an event recently, don't ask why I am the only one in jeans or who the only man in the picture is... Lol
Seeing that I teach confidence in one's career journey, I know that I would constantly be put to test projecting my own confidence!
Earlier this month, I got an award for excellence in my organization. The prestigious BEARs awards.
Of course, it felt good and a lot of people sent me sincere heartfelt messages that filled my tummy with butterflies!
In the bid to also share with me, I have had someone say to me; oh, we didn't enter for the competition else with the work we have been doing in my department, I would have won!
Another voice with good intention said, don't put that on social media dear, it would be too much info... I am not sure they meant harm, it was an honest great conversation but Its easier to translate it as oh, Abisoye, you got lucky!
You didn't get lucky, you deserved it!
It was your time to get recognized for the contributions you make and it felt good.
It's easy not to enjoy the wins on your journey because you are too busy trying on another person's shoes!
Soak it in!
Enjoy the moment!
Hold your narrative!
Don't belittle your wins!
Strut with confidence because you are creating reference points in your head for more successes.
Congratulations Abisoye... Keep up the good work!
#Godfidence is God's confidence!
Let me introduce you to Becx.. My Oyinbo Friend and coach😝... I enjoy her insights on the topic of career... But I wanted to share something's else.. As a young Nigerian professional, I am sure you know at least 2 middle-class families who have left or planning to leave the shores of Nigeria for greener pastures or just to create an easier new life... #lagosisnothard , the traffic alone can add to the deciding factors of making such life-changing decisions.
One of the biggest concerns for such professionals who have a number of years experience is getting a job with their current skill sets and not just the menials jobs to make ends meet. As an engineer here in Naija, you really want to work as an engineer or at least use your transferable skills to get a "professional" job, not a menial job for the sake of making ends meet!
My conversations with some and also seeing their situation got me curious to ask my friend and coach, Rebecca of @popyourcareer; who is a recruiter and a coach in the "overseas"- to share tips and ideas to consider to land your dream job overseas. 👈Check in my Bio for a Linktree- Foreign professional waka!
I always say different strokes for different people but I reached out to a friend in the same industry as me who have migrated for a couple years now and isn't doing badly for himself to share his personal experience.
One powerful tip he shared was to never underestimate the power of volunteering. I would love to share his story with you once I get the permission and full gist.
Until I get his interview done right, read up on tips my friend, Becx says about finding your dream job abroad.
Share some of your concerns with respect to migration...
What's for Lunch?
Eating lunch with colleagues help breaks walls of barriers.
First time my girlfriend got access to Madam company secretary was because they strolled into the kitchenette downstairs together. Madam secretary had just resumed and maybe from the culture of her former workplace, she eat her lunch in the general kitchenette. That's how my girlfriend became her buddy "kind of" because they always chatted over lunch... they became friendly...chatted about food and found common grounds as moms.
Guess who could enter into Madam office and got things done quicker through her than the rest who had to go through her "office" to get to the company secretary?
By the time we all got the memo and wanted to catch in on lunch period, madam had switched to private lunch... Hehehehe
Its important to build your social equity within and outside your office!
Lunch time provides you with such opportunities!
Just don't bring ogbono to the table... Lol 📷credit: one of naija's finest food bloggers @lovemrskush
Often been asked how to project one’s skills, work and value as a mid career professional without tending towards been arrogant.
Here is my answer especially for those who are serious about promoting their personal brand: 📌Online Reviews or Recommendations!
Below are some major reasons to get recommended for your work and how it can help you to grow your skilled self. 📌People buy mostly form the heart as against totally from the head:
You have a service to sell: your skilled self! Believe it or not, we make buying decisions from the point of view of another. In Psychology, It’s referred to as social proof; a phenomenon where people assume the actions of others in an attempt to reflect behavior for a given situation.
Some unadvertised jobs/opportunities are offered simply because someone’s recommended your work. 📌 It validates your claim:
When people share how they feel working with you, your claim of intelligence and expertise in a certain field seems more justified as against you claiming your own bragging right. 📌It keeps you on your toes and won’t allow you to slack: Same way, every service provider is working to get better reviews, you would find yourself working to serve people better so that your recommendations become better and colorful.
So how do you go about getting these recommendations? 📷 credit :@anastasia_lanis
R E G R E T S & C O N F I D E N C E
I have tried to come up with a list of things that I regret but I never get past 3 because it hurts the most when I think of the tangent my life could have taken if I didn’t do these things.
So let me try again with you reading:
I regret I never went into modelling as much as I was poached to do this. I always thought I didn’t have the liver enough to and the guts to stand in front of people staring. My biggest fear was that my secret will be out with my small boobs, funny most of the other girls were flat chested too but I just couldn’t. Perhaps, I would be in Paris by now!
I regret never taking up tailoring lessons on all those pointless strikes we had when I was in the university. Pointless because I don’t think the Staff ever got what they wanted with the strikes, they were always just strung along by the politicians.
Perhaps I would be in another Ejiro Amos Tafiri…I love her mixture of quirkiness and class.
I regret not taking the certification exams that would have allowed be a consultant in SAP. My excuse was that I was torn in between two functional modules such that I didn’t do either. Although I work as a BASIS professional, perhaps I would have been great at Material Management by now.
I still can’t get past three from my pile of regrets but I certainly am learning and have learnt to forgive myself and change those regrets into stories of strength and allow myself confidently tell them so I can be great at what I am currently doing!
Given the chance, your secret regrets would cause a mindset block on my confidence as a professional.
Own your stories, the Gratitude's and the regrets, they ALL form who are you ultimately are.
Live life colorfully without regrets
Yours on this journey!

So my girlfriend tells me about her conniving colleague. Because, I can be funnily naive of people's behaviours and I love to give second chances, I told her to take a chill pill, she might not be evil but guess what ,she did some things later and even I had to salute the ingenuity of the annoying colleague.
Well done Ma!
Before you are quick to conclude it's a woman thing, there are male annoying colleagues too. Those who Bcc the boss and who let important meetings slide by you so that they can give their own "great advice" to management and make you look sloppy.
Because we are humans, we would always meet this people.
Outside the real world, you would probably know to avoid them and get them off your circle. However at work, you might not have the power to "remove" them from your cycle except of course you are leaving the job. But what if it's your dream job without the toxicity of this individual?
Tips I think should work: 💠Don't be naive:
short of becoming paranoid or ignorant, don't be naive of this individual's feelings about you! Although you should be civil, you need to know who is in your corner and be at alert. Good luck not becoming paranoid! lol 💠Don't lose your own values:
We are humans and there is always a desire to get back at the individual- whatever you do, do not lose your own values! I am a natural team person - as much as possible, I don't allow anyone's "manipulations" ruin my spirit or what I believe in. 💠Take a stand for yourself:
Be gentle but firm! but if gentle fails, be firm! lol. No one can make you inferior except you allow them. 💠Give the individual a chance to come clean: as much self protection is the natural form of action when we notice the undermining colleague, give the individual a chance to come clean or become friendly.
Finally, Like I mentioned, these are likely tips that should work. It varies depending on the individuals. And if all else , maybe its time to look for another job oh and seal it up with prayers
Tell me any more ideas to deal with toxic people and situations without losing your personal brand?
PS: The babe in the picture is in my corner😝
It validates your claim:
If you tell us you are good enough, let's hear others say it too.
It keeps you on your toes and won’t allow you to slack:
Same way, every service provider is working to get better reviews, you would find yourself working to serve people better so that your recommendations become better and colorful.
People making buying decisions from the heart than it is from the head alone:
I know how much i checked reviews to buy pure honey, ridiculous but true, we all want what others say is great!
Try get some today, i can share insight to the on the article:
Link in Bio... Have a fantastic day people
The result of what I help professionals do might be relative. I help mid career professionals step up and show up and become confidence enough to project the value they bring to a team!
Find it, own it and tell your own story without battling an eyelid!
My gaze still shifts when even i talk about my value and this is me that is deliberately working on me as a product!
Although relative, its value however isn't!
As I read this book someone whose leadership has great influence on me, it occurred to me again why I am passionate to help professionals and myself see this value.
And I quote:
What we believe about ourselves, at every point in time ,determines the results we get.
But what informs our beliefs? "For some our beliefs are conditioned by past failures and experiences or by people who held positions of influence over their lives and how those people defined their abilities, strengths or weaknesses. Others draw their beliefs from the observed limitations of others and from the morals and standard of their society." Quite lengthy but I need us to take pain to read the last bits as highlighted...and lets focus on the ones who draw their beliefs of themselves from our observed limitations... For me its the children: my cast and crew like I fondly call them... What projection is my life as professional and their aunt or mom or older sister casting on their belief system of themselves... You can kid everyone else -pun intended but you cannot kid these young ones
...trust me they see.. So whether you want to be deliberate about stepping up and showing up for yourself so you can earn the money , respect, influence and impact you desire to create or you want to settle for less and have your non effectiveness and playing small color the children's belief in themselves... Today determine to step up not only for you but do it for the children!
