As a Bengali I can say ‘Durga Puja is just awesome. So there are ample reasons to be crazy about it’...It isn’t just an event that brings the city of Kolkata to a halt. Durga Puja is a festival that brings people together all across India. The fun, food and the fervour that Durga Puja brings is something that can’t be replicated. The entire city turns into a beautiful dreamland of joy and togetherness. It’s no secret that Bengalis are foodies. And Durga Puja is a prime example. While other people celebrate Navratri by fasting every day, Bengalis totally have the time of their lives, eating fish fries, mutton rolls and mughlai paratha. And also fish curry is a must. Fasting is restricted to daytime, till ‘pushpanjali’. Our Gods are pretty adjusting about this stuff. Then comes dhaak and dhunuchi dance. This is just not a ritual dance, it is more of a merriment. As a part of everyday aarti, men and women with dhaaks create an ambience of celebration and sheer happiness. Adults and kids alike can be seen dancing with the perfect rhythm and enthusiasm which is almost infectious. #kumortuli #goddess #durgapuja2017 #creativeimagemagazine #_woi #Hinduism #_soi #vscocam #photography #indianphotographers #_soi #creative_zone_diaries #_visualsofindia #bengal #celebration #indiaclick #calcuttacacophony #ig_Calcutta #Calcutta #_india_on_focas #crazycreativeframe #insta_global #withlovekolkata #oph #beautiful_world #ig_shutterbugs #ig_worldspics #daily_photoz #ashlopujo

Ward away your Monday morning blues with these images of pure joy from #Durgapuja2017 #PujaMemories
Durga is depicted in the Hindu pantheon as a fearless woman riding a lion or tiger, with 10 arms each carrying a weapon, often defeating the mythical buffalo demon. She appears in Indian texts as the wife of god Shiva, as another form of Parvati or mother goddess.
She is a central deity in Shaktism tradition of Hinduism, where she is equated with the concept of ultimate reality called Brahman. One of the most important texts of Shaktism is Devi Mahatmya, also called as Durgā Saptashatī, which celebrates Durga as the Goddess, declaring the Supreme Being and the creator of the universe as feminine. Estimated to have been composed between 400-600 CE,this text is considered by Shakta Hindus to be as important scripture as the Bhagavad Gita. She has a significant following all over India and in Nepal, particularly in its eastern states such as West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam and Bihar. Durga is revered after spring and autumn harvests, specially during the festival of Navaratri... #durgapuja2017 #creativeimagemagazine #_woi #Hinduism #_soi #vscocam #photography #indianphotographers #_soi #creative_zone_diaries #_visualsofindia #bengal #celebration #indiaclick #calcuttacacophony #ig_Calcutta #Calcutta #_india_on_focas #crazycreativeframe #insta_global #withlovekolkata #oph #beautiful_world #ig_shutterbugs #ig_worldspics #daily_photoz #ashlopujo
