My dad trained labs for duck hunting my whole childhood. I’ve spent many hours helping him and learning all about it. When I was in high school, I got my very own black lab puppy and named him, Chink. I did the majority of his training and even took him to some hunting test, which we passed with flying colors! He taught me a lot about trust, patience and consistency before selling him to a really great family that hunted with him, then hanging up my whistles.
If a few years ago, you would have told me I’d brush the dust off my whistle lanyard and be training labs again, I probably would have laughed, it was one of those “things of the past”, you know we all have them in our lives. Yet, here we are, me and Brie, our middle fur girl! With my husband’s steadily growing duck hunting guide service, he needs me to be able to handle the dogs too. Teamwork makes the dream work, right?! Sometimes life brings you full circle to a place you have been before just to show you how much you have grown, I’m definitely not in high school any more (15 year reunion next weekend to be exact). I’m so much more confident in myself, and I’m thankful that I can help my husband as his creates memorable duck hunting experiences for others!
