Another Friday, another medal - Dubai Desert Road Run 10k. Morning started a bit dodgy, however, turned out just fantastically! Comparing time and heart rates to the Festival City 10k on 9/11/18 (first actual road race in Dubai since moving) and already knocking off 4 or so minutes and building a stronger cardio system!! A good reminder that consistency really does lead to results! Not too much to go until pre-Dubai running goodness! Great way to top off a fantastic week for me, from catching up with beautiful friends from home @snowangelspeak and also surviving a Christmas boozey lunch, with no actual alcohol passing my lips, and still having a great time👼Have to say, my physical and mental health and well-being, is on the road to tip top 🙌 Feeling full of smiles 🤗🏃♀️#runner#mydubai#dubaidesertroadrun#thesevensstadium#consistencyiskey#positivementalattitude#runderwear#rundedweaduae#onrunning#onrunningme#polar#guchews#dubairunning
🐈🐈 Spine Mobility 🐄🐄
#Repost @themobilitymethod (@get_repost)
Pain along the spine typically arises in the lumbar (low back) spine or the cervical (neck) spine. When the body isn't able to fluidly move through its proper/full range of motion, restrictions occur and excessive movement through areas needing more stability occur. .
🔶 Areas of increased STABILITY: cervical & lumbar spine
🔶 Areas of increased MOBILITY: thoracic spine
Keeping this in mind for general "functional" movement patterns and when lifting, this does not negate the fact that we still need all of our joints to MOVE!
When joints stop moving, they're not only stiffening but also no longer sending the same signals to the brain that movement can and SHOULD occur there 😱
Breaking the traditional cat-cow exercise into different parts is a great way to start to not only increase mobility of different areas, but to also increase motor control so that the brain interprets the movement of "safety" through motion and begins to decrease the interpretation of PAIN 🔥 . .
Tag someone you think can benefit from getting some spinal movement back in their lives!
Also, when we begin to move through each extreme range of motion, our body begins to interpret where "normal" should be. Without movement, how would our bodies know?
So my suggestion.... MOVE !
We all bid sweet goodbye for the last session of the year 2018 @asicsme.
@mightyfrogz shows the group best conditioning and strength exercises (including mobility and body coordination which I admit I really need to improve😜🤦🏾♀️😂). Then after we all run around the beautiful Dubai Marina promenade😍👌🏽🌃 - 8km.
In behalf of @asicsfrontrunner DXB, we thank you for the support and love you are sharing with each other to fan the flame. Looking forward for a great year ahead of us.
We will keep you all posted for the next sessions. Surely it will be exciting, fun-filled and challenging programs that will cater everyone's need to improve their running.
#coasttocoastdubai is fast approaching with only 1 week to go! Seven females from the global @asicsfrontrunner community will work as a team to run 180K from Dubai to Oman in 4 days. There will be some road but mainly sand, mountains and the trails 🙌🏼 follow us on #instagram and #facebook#imovedubai 📸: @elsheeko
First ever half marathon done ✅
What better way to do it than on your own, without proper preparation and around midday in Dubai ☀️ Longest run I’ve done up till now was 16km, and that’s 10 years ago. Felt a lot of pain in my left hip and my right hip flexor from around the 5km mark, so pace dropped from there (the pain stayed until the end though, that was a long 1.5hr 😩). However, if it doesn’t challenge you it doesn’t change you. When was the last time YOU pushed your limits? 💪🏻
I noticed it’s about 10 miles to run from the Burj al Arab to the Burj Khalifa. Anyone up for doing a Burj-to-Burj run soon?

✨UPPER BODY WARM-UP✨
#Repost @themobilitymethod (@get_repost)
Happy #MobilityMonday 👊
Did you remember your mobility before hitting that workout today?!
Use this upper body mobility flow next time 💪
Let’s break down why I’m doing these as a warm-up:
🔹Open Book with Angel Reaches: passive thoracic spine opening with a passive chest opener and some gravity assisted pec opening throughout shoulder flexion. About 5-10 on each side.
🔹Plank Supported Thoracic Rotation: keep the toes planted so that the majority of the twist comes from the upper back, not the hips and legs. This actively opens the spine and shoulders while activating the serratus anterior and mid-traps/rhomboids. About 5-10 on each side.
🔹Plank to Opposite Reach Throughs: this also actively rotates the spine through a closed chain reach of the hand and closed chain shoulder flexion as the hand stays planted to push the hips in the air. You start loading the shoulder with less load to prep for anything overhead. Perform 5-10 on each side.
🔹Eccentric Push-Up to Prone Angels to Serratus Push: love this one! Slowly prep the chest with some active stretching through a slow eccentric lowering. Then smoothly transition to work those traps (particularly targeting the low traps by pulling the shoulder blades away from the ears) and then press powerfully up to a rounded upper back and big serratus push! Can’t go wrong with this one. Perform 10 reps.
Dont forget to register for the last Dubai Desert Road Run of 2018 taking place on Friday 14th December. Head over to http://ow.ly/d8zm30mUOnP to register. See you at the start line on Friday. #dubairunning#ddrr#morningrun
Crammmmppp, I lay on the street savoring the pain as time stops and every seconds felt like hours. We are only at 23kms when both leg muscles started to move on it’s own (calves and hamstrings). I couldn’t stand! Friends who passed by responded to my pain and helped me. Declined to be taken by an ambulance I prayed “Lord let me finish this race, even if I walk, just remove this pain”. God then humbled my heart to not run after my PB but instead focus on my purpose. After a couple of minutes I stood up without a sign of pain. One stranger encourage me to drink the whole bottle of Pocari (because I need it). Started walking slowly afraid that it will comeback again (a friend reminded me that it will comeback when I twist my leg), it was almost 2km walk when we jogged then transitioned to run. We’re running continuously that we manage to catch-up with friends and finished the race.
(Will write the whole story on my blog: maitimmagandamalakas.wordpress.com/)
✔️I’ve realized that if I didn’t slow down I wouldn’t properly utter my prayers. .
✔️I’ve realized that racing is not a solo endeavor (even following God). .
✔️I’ve realized that strength is nothing if it’s not being dispersed. .
✔️We need people who will help us to persevere and do what He has called us to do.
Daddy God, thank You for relationships that encourage me to continue following You. Help me to be a source of strength for others, as well!
Thank you so much @3fstriders @3fstridersabudhabi family, @fru_filipino.runners.united and @fit.club_dubai for all the cheers!
Anything is possible with God!

Up at 3am on Friday morning to participate in my running club’s 17th Johnson Arabia Dubai Creek Striders Half Marathon. Known as the “worlds most beautiful and scenic half marathon” and it most definitely was!
Whilst I have gotten used to running longer distances over the past year or so, I still get really nervous when it comes to an official timed run.
Today wasn’t a PB day (again😢) and I somehow managed to finish with the same time I achieved at my last timed HM of 2:23 a month ago! At least I’m consistent😂
Overall a good and steady run. Preparation the night before and sleep were sufficient. The weather was kind. KMs weren’t as painful as the last couple of long runs. Most importantly I was able to enjoy myself and finish injury free. 🤩
An exceptionally well organised event in every way possible. From getting the most generous goodie bag, to having supportive stewards along the accurately measured 21kms and of course being rewarded with a delightful medal and the most delicious English breakfast 🍳🥞🥐🍰🥤🍩🍉🍏🍌☕️I know my fellow runners were surprised with just how much I ate post run!
Thank you and bless the incredible and supportive Dubai Creek Striders committee! 💙💚💛🧡 Please give credit if you use my photos!
December has seen already one tough test for me - going for the podium at @utct 🥉I have celebrated this achievement as much as possible and rested to ensure I recover sufficiently 🎉Now it’s time to focus on my final big challenge of 2019! In 10 days time we will run from Dubai to Oman 🇴🇲 180K, in 4 days. I can’t wait to welcome the awesome team of #asics front runners to Dubai! @manon_runs @rushbynature @carina_bungard @runflow_ @martaggrun @reegan_anne #imovedubai#coasttocoastdubai
