For this week’s #PilotiFavorites series, we’ll be exploring some incredible attractions along the Ring Road in Iceland. Swipe to get started 👉🏼 The Ring Road (📸: @mike_from_queens) is on many road trip bucket lists, and for good reason. The Ring Road, also known as Route 1, is Iceland’s main road throughout the country that lets travelers explore some fantastic attractions along the way. Here are a few of our favorites:
1. Vestrahorn, Southeast Iceland (📸: @seffis) One of the most photographed mountains in Iceland, a small entry fee is required to use the road that reaches Vestrahorn. This mountain has been nicknamed the Batman Mountain, with spiky peaks reaching up to 454 meters.
2. Reynisfjara, Southwest Iceland (📸: @zephyrdrones) Requiring a short detour off the Ring Road, this beach is famous for its spectacular black sand and rocky sculptures along the coastline. The waves are incredibly strong, and visitors are cautioned to stay alert while exploring this stunning beach.
3. Seljalandsfoss, South Iceland (📸: @lightsinn) One of the most popular waterfalls in Iceland, the Seljalandsfoss can be seen by those driving along the Ring Road. To explore more closely, visitors can walk roughly 100 meters from the road to explore a path that leads behind the waterfall.
4. Jokulsarlon, Southeast Iceland (📸: @this.is.l.a) Another tourist favourite due to its spectacular beauty, this glacial lagoon is filled with icebergs that have broken off from the glacier. The drive along the South Coast to Jokulsarlon is particularly beautiful, and visitors can explore this attraction year round!
