Admittedly, hot buttered fernet is a niche drink, but what if you thought if it as, say, hot buttered rum with a little kick of something more complex?
With rain in the forecast, the weather is perfect for a little hot buttered fernet and a lot of filling in those bubbles with a blue or black pen.
2 tablespoons "Batter" (recipe below)
1 oz rum (a demerara rum works here, but you could just as easily use bourbon, and @cannonbeachdistillery's Donlon shanks rum honestly seems born to be bffls with Townshends fernet)
1 oz @townshendsdistillery's PNW fernet
3 oz boiling water plus one more to dilute to taste
Add the batter to your mug(s), and pour in two ounces of boiling water. Stir to melt and mix, and then add the rum and fernet. Stir again, taste to see if you like it, and add more water to taste. The hotter your drink the more you'll smell and taste the alcohol and sugar, so make sure you double check to get the drank experience you're looking for.
Hot Buttered Batter Recipe
1 stick butter, room temperature
7-8 ounces brown sugar
1/4 tsp ground gloves
1/4 tsp nutmeg, fresh is best!
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground all-spice
Cream together until you get a uniforn paste. Keep refridgerated: like all compound butters, it spoils more easily than regular butter and you should use it all within a month or so or plan to store it in the freezer.

"Hand of Glory is an English style Barleywine brewed with Simpsons Finest Golden Promise and hopped with EKG. It was fermented with a traditional English yeast strain and transferred into 13 year old Kentucky bourbon barrels to age for 8 months.
