Troy University will be participating in the Montgomery Dragon Boat race again this year on August 25th.
The Troy Confucius Institute will be a gold sponsor this year, which provides Troy with some new opportunities as well as the Chinese cultural arts to the more than 2500 participants at the festival this year.
For those unfamiliar with the sport, dragon boating simply put, is a boat of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steers person, paddling to cross the finish faster than their competition. It's a team sport in its purest form that encompasses the elements of power, speed, synchronization and endurance. The roots of dragon boat racing go back over 2,000 years to the southern provinces of China.

I think I’m finally almost recovered from the amazing weekend of races at the Calgary Dragon Boat festival! .
The races hold such a special place in my heart, because despite the physical challenges that I may face it gives me an opportunity to challenge and push myself to be better. .
You may have heard me say it before ‘winning is all that matters -just ask a Breast cancer warrior’ and just by showing up we’ve already won! .
In any race there may be up to 100 people on the water but the true competition I worry about is the one with myself, I want to be better, stronger, faster - with every improvement I make I feel hope, and together we can make a difference, we can break through barriers. .
The flower 🌸 ceremony is such a special tribute for those who have passed and for those who are fighting. Standing on the docks side by side with some amazing women, at the Glenmore Res. where my passion for dragon boating was first ignited was incredible. And to look up and see my people holding their pink roses was incredibly emotional. .
Thank you to my family and friends that did make it out to support because you are the foundation that I build my strength upon, you are the reason that I came out smiling after walking through the fires of 🔥 hell. .
I can’t thank the Sistership team enough for the very Calgarian hospitality 💕 .
If you missed the amazing festival, be sure to add it to your calendar for next year you won’t be disappointed! .
Until next time #YYC -Always a pleasure! .

Urban wellness adventures: +1 or +20 people activities
Sometimes.. participating in activities as a group is better than doing them solo.
Socializing has many benefits for your physical and mental health. Many adults, especially those who often work alone, remotely, within small teams, or are only client facing find it challenging to meet new people and friends outside of work.
Spending time doing group activities and outings for leisure can increase social camaraderie, connect you to new people and new/improved skills, and engage you in a way that solo time usually doesn't enable. Although for some, this may be anxiety provoking, it's okay, start small and you can build on that.
You can be a workout buddy/cheerleader to someone with a fitness goal, sub in for intramural leagues, attend a Meetup to learn or improve a skill/sport, or volunteer. There are so many options. Along the way, you may meet some cool people who enjoy your interests and maybe even some friends too.
The group doesn't have to be big and you don't have to spend too much time but try to challenge yourself and get outside of your comfort zone.

•Tell us about the club - who are you?
@thamesdragons are London's oldest dragon boat club. We are now in our 25th year. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Why did you choose to base yourself in the Royal Docks? 💧
We’ve been have been here for many years. The long 2km stretch of the dock and the ease of getting boats out on the water plays a large part in why we are here.
•What impact does the club have on the area?
A large number of our members come from or work around the Royal Docks area.
We participate in local activities such as raising money for nearby charities like @richardhousech and we attend their Summerfest event each year. We also help local charities and corporate crews learn how to race in a dragon boat.
•Favourite spot #alongthedocks ?
At the far end of the dock, on the water in front of @universityofeastlondon. Looking over towards Canary Wharf during our evening training session as the sun sets over Central London is a beautiful scene, and well worth the hard work to experience.
• Best memory in the club’s history?
We’ve many memories as we train here at least twice a week and have raced here in the British Dragon Boat Association League events and charity and corporate events. But no doubt our fondest memories are when the sun is shining, the water on the dock is still and we are out paddling with great teammates.
•What makes dragon boat racing an exciting water sport?
It's a team sport that requires everyone to be in sync to achieve success, which makes it such a sociable sport too. When you are in a race, the drum is banging, the helm is shouting and you are yards from all the other boats doing exactly the same. There is really nothing more dramatic and crazy as this. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

AERO!" #sárkányhajóverseny#Szombathely#aerofitnessclub#dragonboat#dragonboatfestival#trailrunning
