#gemmasreview - LIFE IS STRANGE - A graphic adventure game set in Arcadia Bay, the story focuses on Max, a girl who discovers she is able to rewind time, and eventually time travel, but with a lot of consequences. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 .
The game begins with Max in her Photography class at Blackwell. You are able to interact with the environment around you and take (optional) photos which will unlock your "achievements". Max finds herself in the ladies room taking a picture of a butterfly, when Nathan and Chloe come in. Max hides and witnesses Chloe getting shot, and it's at this moment she realizes she is able to rewind time; she does so and ends up back in class. As she realizes what has happened she sets out in order to save Chloe, and when she does, this sets off a butterfly effect. Every action from here will affect your past, present, future. .
This was my second full play of this game, and playing it again I realized I appreciated it more. I connected better with the characters; i felt like i was on this emotional journey with them. The soundtrack is fabulous. The relationship between Max and Chloe is beautiful; the way they care for each other is very real, and this makes choosing between Arcadia Bay and Chloe at the end very very difficult. You can interact with most of the environment around you and when speaking to people, if you dont like the outcome, you can always rewind. There are also puzzles throughout the game, my favourite one being when Max has to "investagate" what has happened to Rachel Amber. .
Broken into 5 episodes, the game touches on a variety of subjects including bullying, suicide/death, drug misuse, kidnapping. No, it's not perfect, character movements can seem very stiff at times, but I don't usually play games based on how they look, and if you do, you're missing out. I love the voice actors, I love what they bring to the game. I love the friendships and love that there is so many outcomes. It is by far one of my favourite games. I will be playing Before the Storm again soon and I'm looking forward to LiS 2. Although Max and Chloe's journey is over I cant wait to start a new journey with new characters.
Well, that escalated quickly... 🦋📸🔫🐶
A question that has been eating me up inside after playing LIS1 is: “Did Rachel really love Frank more than she love Chloe?” 😭 I’ve always thought Rachel became closer to Frank only for his drugs.
