Mackey and I did a thing tonight.... and it’s left me in a #messoftears and #memories and thankfulness.😭I’m still processing every emotion I feel stirred up inside me... I took Mac to the #dollartree for his very first time. He walked in boldly with a $1.00 bill in his hand, and with wide-eyed wonder surveyed the scene and delighted in picking out whatever treasure he wanted.
I, on the other hand, felt flooded with flashbacks to days gone by. The smell of the store alone was like a trigger. I had shopped this store so very many times back in FL. . .
I remember the #Christmas when every gift we gave our kids came from the #dollarstore 🎄 Chad made it fun by turning it into a carnival game. He hid behind the couch and they “fished” for presents.
Many a birthday 🎂 present was a #dollarstoretreasure 🎁
And for quite a long season my #beautyessentials and #groceries and necessities came from there as well. $1.00 body wash could fill a couple of hand soap containers. A bag of tortilla chips and a can of refried beans could fill our bellies. Even $1 pregnancy tests to discover more children were on the way... What struck me most though, was realizing how much my identity was affected back then. Lack defined me. 😳
We had felt determined to be good stewards. To do right after messing up our finances so well. But it was easy to begin to wonder if change would ever come... would there ever really be a breakthrough? Would things ever turn around? It was easy to give up on the big dreams we had once had when we were young.
There was a distinct season of surrender I so vividly remember. Of telling God, “I’m tired of chasing the blessing. I really just need you! So if this is all we ever make, I’ll be content.” Looking back, I believe that is where everything began to turn around. That is when God was free to do so much more.
Dear friend, if you find yourself in a dollar tree season, enjoy it and savor these moments. Please remember this is not the summation of your existence. This is not your identity and this is not your worth! You will look back and see the hidden treasures of your current season, I promise. (Rest in comments)
Dreams and ideas are nothing unless you bring them to life. Just like in Genesis where creation was recorded. God not only formed us according to the idea of a companion that He had, but he breathed into us; making us a living thing. He made these bodies of mud into animate things. Living beings. What kind of dreams are you gonna make a reality today?

I wanted to challenge myself and see if I really could pull off a Dollar store challenge. I wanted to create a Hot Cocoa Bar station in my home for Christmas this year but at the same time I didn’t want to spend too much $$$ or go to my local @Homesensecanada store to purchase any of the items. So I decided to challenge myself to setup the Hot Cocoa Bar with Dollarstore finds and my Shopathome items. .
Here is my DIY Hot Cocoa Bar station. I purchased all the mason jars with lids and mason jar mugs @_dollarama_ . I also found the candy canes, red cup and wooden tree decor from dollarama. Afterwards I shopped at home and took my candlestickholders as extra added heights for the area and used one of my nutcracker decor as an added decor. Voila...a Hot Cocoa Bar that is perfect for the kiddos and perfect for hosting. It’s perfectly nestled in between my nespresso machine and aerochino milk frother. Making it easy to add hot milk to the cocoa, whipped cream and mini marshmallows on top. I would love any tips on perfecting the Hot Cocoa Bar? Any suggestions?
If you're setting up holiday lights and decorations outside and will have exposed plugs, this might be worth trying. You can use containers you'd typically trash or grab some at a dollar store (usually in packs of 3 or 5).
