Running Christmas errands! 🎄 I need to catch the last post for Christmas, wrap the last of my presents, find the books I need for the vac, and buy a cabin-sized suitcase! Any tips for where to find one in Oxford? #studygram#oxford#shopping
AOBR is the first boards to cut out the high stakes recertification examination....we must keep up the momentum and fight the MOC!!! The dominoes are falling! This was only because D.O.’s fought for it through class action - they got it right!...
What is MOC?
MOC is maintenance of certification. Already board certified physicians must take recertifying examinations every 10 years. In other specialties you must do a PIP for performance improvement & SAE self assessment examinations....
Why are physicians against it?
It is frustrating, anger-provoking & an expensive use of resources & precious time.... Physicians work at breakneck conditions, finding the time to review takes away from family time & time from important activities....previously, physicians kept up to date doing CME of their choice...this is mandatory with mandatory excessive fees & excessive time commitment...basically we are forced or we cannot practice...
Why can’t physicians just ignore it?
If physicians don’t do it they don’t get paid by insurance companies they can’t earn....
Why all the commotion?
In Neurology, here’s my breakdown $1600 every 10 years. I held out as long as I could and didn’t pay for 3 years now there’s a 3 year reminder or you are labeled non-MOC certified.
SAE - I paid $450 to the AAN so I could enroll in the multiple choice tests I am forced to do
PIP - I pay the ABPN $175 x 3 years so I can read 20 pages of discombobulated instructions to give my patient a questionnaire, list their names I keep & CODES!! What purpose does the code serve???
NICA - $750 over 3 years
Over 30 years I pay $22500. Multiple that by the 900,000 physicians you have $20billion in fees a nice little racket for extortion...
Why is it important to fight it?
As long as physicians are quiet, there will be an increase in fees & requirements... proactive physicians are involved fighting the illegal tying of recertification to boards...this contributes to the time strained conditions physicians face...
Why are physicians the only professional body recertifying?
Because we allowed it to happen...no more!!!
