I mean... magical. I knew the view was going to be insane but I don’t think I was prepared for how stunning Amelia would be, how sharp Christian’s tux choice would be, the way the storm clouds from earlier in the day gave us this amazing sunset and how grateful - how THANKFUL I feel to be so exhausted. I can’t believe this is my job, spending nights with awesome people like these two on the top of the world. Well, technically Top of the Hay 😎
A real life fairytale ✨
1 year ago, my dear friend Artemis asked us to be her wedding florists, fully aware of the fact that we had never worked on a wedding or large scale event before. Her trust & faith in us was all she needed to know we were the right fit for her. Now here we are, one year later, staring at photos (by the extremely talented @madisonrshort) from her beautiful day in complete awe, with hearts overflowing with love, appreciation & accomplishment! Thank you Artemis & Alex for trusting us from the very, very beginning. This was our biggest wedding yet & it was truly an honor to make your dreams come to life 💕 We love you!! .
On Sunday, I want to tell you about this guy! He’s everything I could ask for in a husband and then some:) he’s cute, hilarious, my best friend, soooo smart and has the heart of a poet as he writes, plays guitar and sings! Love you Josie! #bodamaestra#fallinlove
As floral designers for weddings, our “job” is the same every weekend.
Yet every weekend, the end product is completely different because of the visions cast by our brides, grooms, and vendor partners. This custom chuppah was for Alexa & Elliot yesterday with @sbcreative and @reveventpro 🥂✨
TGIF has taken on a new meaning for me this fall!
Instead of waking up & getting to work, I started my morning with a long run into D.C. with my girl @rosemaryspooner and then had a relaxing breakfast at @paulbakeryofficial on Pennsylvania Ave. Fridays have become my day off in busy season. Since I started my business, I’ve struggled with work-life balance. Having your desk just steps away from where you eat, sleep & relax is a real challenge when you also love your job!
So it’s not perfect and I don’t always manage a full day off, but today I’m thankful for sunshine & time with a dear friend!
What are you doing on your days off this week/weekend?
Being an artist is just plain HARD.
When your career is as an artist, you are pouring out your heart to every client. You’re making yourself vulnerable. You’re opening yourself up to criticism and hurt. You’re saying “I’m proud of this - I MADE this” and hoping that the person on the receiving end likes it, too. In our modern world, comparison is the thief of joy and it’s lurking around every social media-filled corner. The truth is, sometimes you do get hurt. It’s bound to happen. Someone won’t like your work, and it’s hard to disconnect that from the feeling of someone rejecting YOU.
I never in a million years dreamed of being an artist as a career. I always adored the visual arts, but deep down, I think the vulnerability of being an artist was too much for me. I couldn’t imagine putting my heart on the line like that, where anyone could reject it. But here I am, nearly 4 years in to a full-time photography career! This job has shaped my character and taught me, surprisingly, that my value & worth are not derived from personal success and achievement. It’s been painful at times, but the beauty has always outweighed the pain. I can honestly say: I love my job!
F I R S T L O O K.
This moment was definitely not even planned. Yep, you read that right. Our couple originally thought they didn’t want to do a first look, and stick to the walk down the aisle. But somehow in the hustle and bustle of everything, both of them realized they needed this moment to center and ground their day. So with a lot of back and forth between vendors and rushing around to grab letters, this first touch got upgraded to one of the sweetest first looks yet.

Beautiful architecture is one of my very favorite elements to incorporate into a wedding day. I adore buildings with history & intricate details and love they way it adds texture and character to a portrait. 🏛
Nicole & Taylor’s wedding was a FEAST of beautiful architecture! The venue, the chapel, and even a local monument added so much beauty to their already-beautiful wedding day! I’m so excited to be sharing my favorite moments on the blog today!
Do you have a favorite type of architecture? What kind of buildings are beautiful to you?
“Be our guest, be our guest, put our service to the test.”
It’s as if the walls at the @biltmoreestate were singing this song today. The tour was absolutely incredible, and the grounds are beyond gorgeous. We totally get why so many couples swoon over #BiltmoreWeddings @biltmoreweddingsnc.
Every year, I blink and September & October are over. Wasn’t it just August?!
Here in D.C., the fall is our busy season for weddings! Nearly every weekend is filled from Labor Day - Thanksgiving, and it’s a challenge to intentionally take a weekend or two off!
Next year, I plan to take less weddings per month in the fall. This always makes me ask the question - how much is too much? How much is not enough? What is the perfect amount of weddings? It’s such a hard question because it’s SO tempting to say yes to everything. Who’s with me?
So, to my wedding professional friends I ask: how much is too much for you? Have you found a sweet spot? Please share!
Sunday snuggles- is there any other way to do it? We hope you’re out there warming your hearts with fall candles, loved ones and pumpkin spice everything ✨

#FatherofthebrideFriday (totally making up new hashtags as we go LOL). Our bride S had the sweetest moment with her dad walking down the aisle. The little jokes they shared, the tears he was holding back. It just melted our hearts! This is hands down one of our fave moments of the day. It helps a lot of our brides slow down, center themselves, and truly begin to take in the beauty of the day.

When your 8 hour work day is spent in the sun at a vineyard, it doesn’t quite feel like work!
Don’t get me wrong, being a wedding photographer is hard work - it’s physically & emotionally demanding (photog friends, GET YO’SELF A MASSAGE). But being in beautiful moments like this make me feel overwhelmed with gratitude that I get to do such inspiring and exciting work!
Congrats to Dani & Andrew, who are off sipping cocktails on the beach in Jamaica right now! See more from their beautiful day on the blog!
Wow, what a crazy 10 days it has been! I often pride myself on sharing my work with speed & intentionality on Instagram, but I was almost entirely off social media for over a week!
It has been quite a whirlwind of a ten days - an elopement, this styled anniversary session, 3 weddings in multiple states, family visits, a golf outing, training for a half marathon, a trip to my alma mater, more family visits . . . I can’t believe we did it all!
I have an abundance of beautiful photos just waiting to be shared on Instagram & the blog. Stay tuned for a lot more from me this week, friends!
S + B couldn’t keep their hands off of each other their entire wedding day. It was so cute watching the glances between the two of them all day, the bated breath before their first look, and the feeling of warmth and home between them at their first dance. They were in sync; and being able to witness moments like these are why we do what we do.

This picture feels so fitting for the first day of October. Beginning our month with photos of this gorgeous intimate religious ceremony by S + B, solidifying their faith and love for each other. It was absolutely breathtaking hearing their groomsman sing Ave Maria with the acoustics.

I think we packed more into our second year of marriage than we did in our entire eight years of dating. Traveling to new places for several close friends bachelore/bachelorette parties & celebrating their nuptials, buying & building our first home, moving out of a city we lived in for 10+ years, going through the ups & downs of nine months of pregnancy & inevitably bringing life into this world. I love living life with you, @willclay20 ! Happy two years & here’s to many many more 🥂🥂
Happy Anniversary, Mr& Mrs M! 💜 (I was off the grid all weekend so I’m a smidge late). Your day was filled with so much joy and beauty and love and I’m so grateful to you for choosing me to capture it! 💜
One of my favorite moments from this year was walking into this room. I fell in love with Paris this year and seeing this space was a beautiful reminder that brought me back. I honestly had to remind myself that I was working and pull myself away from starring at the ceiling. I could get lost in the ornate details, fresco paintings and gilded mouldings. Shooting for @lisaziesing for @abbyjiu
It's all in the details, amigos...the hanger, the door, the greenery peeking. Awesome photograph by my bestie amiga @photobymarirosa

Is there a better feeling that slipping on a pair of @bellabelleshoes?
I am trading in all the formal wear for sweatpants and comfy slippers today! It is SO gloomy and rainy out there. The only better feeling that getting all dressed up is snuggling up on a cold day like today! But let’s be honest...this is what I always wear when I’m editing the day away!
What are you doing to beat the gloomy weather blues?

Handpainted cherry blossoms, a watercolor envelope liner, and of course a DC landmark map, yes please 🌸❤️ The first official fall weekend might be here (someone ought to tell 80° to cool it, literally) but spring is on my mind today! Catching up on pro photos from this season’s gorgeous weddings- seeing the day and the love story that goes with the invitations in pictures is just one of the best parts of what we do. ————————————————

10 hours on my feet, a 4 hour round-trip drive, a late late night to bed, and a lot of pressure riding on ME.
This is a typical wedding day. In fact, this was my last Saturday! I know it’s a crazy, exhausting, high-stress job . . . and I LOVE it. It is ALWAYS worth it.
I was talking to a wedding planner friend yesterday about appearance vs. reality of the wedding industry. From the outside, it can look very glamorous. And sometimes it really is glamorous. Butttt most of the time, it is HARD WORK. Hard work doesn’t mean it’s bad, but it’s also not for the faint of heart. You can’t be lazy at this job, ever. You can’t be too slow or unprepared. We work on weekends and work on weekdays. We don’t clock out after 8 hours. Every wedding day is a couple’s WEDDING DAY, and so every one of my couples gets an extra-special experience - my VERY best work. Period.
Jess & Maggie’s wedding was like a feast for my camera! SO much beauty - I took way more photos than I normally do! Best of all, they were an absolute job to work with. At the end of the day, the relationships I build with couples and the tangible, lasting legacy I am creating for them gives me the greatest satisfaction & joy. It is ALWAYS worth it. I ♥️ my job!
