Last day in Japan. It’s been quite an adventure. From typhoons and earthquakes, to Tokyo Disney and my brothers wedding, there’s been experiences we paid for and some we haven’t. None the less it’s been nothing short of incredible. This country is truly amazing and like most places just too much to see in such a short time. My travel partner has been such a trooper. @andie.wh what a way to spend your last days of your 20s, celebrate a monumental birthday and enter a new chapter of life. Thank you for being so amazing and putting up with me through thick and thin. I love you more than anything. Time to return home and start thinking about what’s next to come!
National selfie day you say? Okay, I’ll play.
Taken last April in Mojave National Preserve. The wind at the top of Cima Dome was so intense that I was being choked by the neck strap of my hat as I snapped this photo, hence the sort of half-smile.
On the way back down though, the sun came out from behind scudding clouds and and the resulting sunset made a magnificent backdrop for the Joshua Tree forest my bestie and I were hiking through (a photo featured earlier in my feed). Truly a magical moment.
The plan: a full day of hiking that included the pictured Palisades and Grotto Falls, plus a 5 mile hike. What happened: missed a turn after Grotto and surprised ourselves when we ended up back at the van. Drove to lunch.
Happy solstice! We hope you have some fun road trips planned for the summer. Recent escapee @jazmoonn put together some of her favorite podcasts, books, and playlists to keep you company on the road (link in bio). What would you add to the list?
The good thing about having your home in your car is that you don't have to book a place to sleep and the best thing when doing a 6 month roadtrip is that you don't have to plan every hour of every day.
Five days of walking/hiking 50+ miles through grassy meadows, snow-covered mountains, Andean plains, high jungle and climbing more than 2,000 steps in the dark to see the sunrise over a bunch of boring old rocks? WORTH IT. We’re still coming down from the whole thing.💃🏽🕺🏼
Quite honestly, we were afraid that we’d be underwhelmed when we finally made it here but we were so wrong! It’s stunning in photos but it’s totally surreal when you’re standing there, trying to take it all in. We had chills (and it wasn’t just because our clothes were wet from sweating our way up the stairs).
We get you now, Machu Picchu. Keep showing off and thanks for the buns of steel. ✨
Archemedes has had some much needed extetior TLC this week.
Here he is half naked with a new paint job.
I'm covered in rust, paint, oil and underseal (the latter is the work of the devil I'm sure. It's been on my hands for three days and I wore gloves! I'm sure it could be weaponised ). I am however secretly happy that I've managed to put the van back together without having any bits left over.
In our three days off we tried to cram in as much as possible but we haven't managed to do everything and we're back on expedition tomorrow. I'm really pleased with what we have achieved though and we'll do the rest after the weekend.
Stay tuned for a full update folks!
