Keep yourself close to nature, then only you will understand everything in a better way. Nature’s Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises. Mark it and explore it further.🌍🌧

In the memory of Queen Victoria this great meorial building was build by the Lord Curzon. A place with rich history in it self. Now today this monument represents Calcutta the story of its past days. One must pay a visit while on a tour in Calcutta.

Cause I’m feeling like exploring a fort today!

In picture: Hanuman Pol (Pol = Gate) of Kumbhalgarh Fort. The serpentine road heading towards the fort will take you through five huge gates or Pols. Starting from Aret Pol in south followed by Halla Pol, Hanuman Pol, Ram Pol and Vijay Pol. Hanuman Pol is majorly significant as it embodies an image of Monkey God ‘Hanuman’ brought by Rana Kumbha himself. •

This is the view from the top of TNK village located at Senapati District headquarter. The view is breathtaking from here. Everyone should visit this spot at least once if they are in Senapati District Headquarter. From this spot one can get the entire view of the District Headquarter. This spot is not far from the main town. From here almost everything seem tiny so you've to zoom into the photo to see the beauty. I was here to spend sometime with one of my friend. Planning to go again soon at this spot.

Rock viper ( Trimeresurus malabaricus )
Venomous species endemic to southwestern India.
Slow-moving, but capable of fast strikes. Its venom causes moderate pain and swelling to humans.
Nocturnal and usually inactive in the day, sometimes seen basking on rocks or trees near streams. It is more commonly encountered during the monsoon months.

Note : Full brightness recommended

Paat shak or Nalte shaker jhol (jute leaf soup) is a micro regional dish from the district of Birbhum and Burdwan and has an uncanny resemblance to an ancient dish of Egypt called Mulukhiyah.

Popularly known as Jagannath Dham, Shree Kshetra, Purushottam Kshetra, Nilachal, Nilagiri, Niladri & Shankha Kshetra, the Shree Jagannath Temple is an important Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath Mahaprabhu/Lord Nilamadhava, a form of Lord Vishnu, located on the eastern coast of India, at Puri in the state of Odisha... The temple is an important pilgrimage destination and one of the four great "Char Dham" pilgrimage sites, found at India's four cardinal points... The other three being Badrinath in the north(Chamoli, Uttarakhand), Dwarka in the west(Devbhoomi Dwarka, Gujarat) & Rameshwaram in the south(Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu)... was rebuilt in 1161 CE, on the site of an earlier temple, by King Anantavarman Chodaganga Deva, first of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty...
The main temple is 214 feet(65 metres) high & the temple complex covers an area of over 400,000 square feet(37,000 square metres)... It represents Kalingan architectural style...
Lord Jagannath Mahaprabhu, his brother Lord Balabhadra & their sister Devi Subhadra constitute the main trinity of deities worshipped at the temple... The temple iconography depicts the holy trio sitting on the bejewelled platform or "Ratnavedi" in the inner sanctum... The Sudarshan Chakra, deities of Madanmohan, Sridevi & Vishwadhatri are also placed on the Ratnavedi...The temple icons of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Sudarshan Chakra are made from sacred Neem logs known as "Daru"... Depending on the season, the deities are adorned in different garbs and jewels... Worship of these deities pre-date the temple structure & may have originated in an ancient tribal shrine...

Located on Hill Cart Road, Batasia Loop(Batasia means "windy area") was commissioned in 1919, as it was an engineering requirement for the toy train to be able to handle a steep gradient... Just after Ghoom/Ghum(the highest railway station of India), there is a sharp fall as the toy train moves towards Darjeeling... There was no way the toy train could negotiate such a drastic fall of about 140 ft unless there was a way to somehow reduce the gradient of the slope... Batasia Loop was created by the British to counter such sharp descent... One won't even realize how the toy train actually descends by about 140 ft as it completes the loop through a large circular area on a gentle slope & then crosses its own track near the beginning of the loop through a tunnel below... It is considered as one of the greatest engineering feats...
At the center of the Batasia Loop is the Gorkha War Memorial... This was opened in 1995 to commemorate the Gorkha soldiers of the Darjeeling hills who sacrificed their lives in various wars after India's independence... At an elevated platform there is a cenotaph & a statue of a soldier paying homage...
Spread across an area of around 50,000 sq ft, it provides a spectacular panoramic view of the Eastern Himalayas & the adjoining hill town...

Mahakal Temple has a deep rooted history... This is where stood the original Dorje Ling(from which Darjeeling derived its name) Monastery, which is now called the Bhutia Busty Monastery... The original monastery was built in the year 1765 by the Lama named Dorje Rinzing... It was plundered and destroyed in 1815 during the Gorkha invasion... It was rebuilt in the year 1861 and later relocated to its present location, about 1.5 kilometers(a mile) from here down below at a lower level... And today when one enters the Mahakal temple, he/she not only hears the Hindu priests chanting prayers, but also finds Buddhist monks reading out from their holy scripts, both harmoniously co-existing together... There are hundreds of Buddhist prayer flags fluttering all over and hanging from the trees... Buddhists believe the prayers reach the heaven through these flags... With changing seasons, the color of the flags fade, which signify that with passing time the sins will also be washed away... The devotees come here & walk barefoot three times around the temple, ringing the many bells that are hung from the walls... Often one will hear religious songs being played in the temple complex... Next to the Mahakal temple is a white chorten or a Tibetan memorial shrine... It has the relics of Dorje Lama who was the caretaker of the temple in 1880s... In fact there are many other small shrines and temples here, dedicated to deities like Kali, Durga, Ganesha, Radha Krishna & others...

The Coronation Bridge, also known as the Sevoke Bridge in Darjeeling district of West Bengal, India, spans across the Teesta River, connecting the districts of Darjeeling & Jalpaiguri... National Highway 31 runs across it... It was named to commemorate the coronation of King George VI & Queen Elizabeth in 1937 & was completed in 1941 at a cost of Rs. 4 lakhs only... The foundation stone of the bridge was laid by John Anderson, the then Governor of Bengal in 1937... Locals call the bridge "Baghpool", meaning Tiger Bridge, because of the two Lion statues("Bagh" actually means Tiger) at one entrance of the bridge... John Chambers, the last British executive engineer of the Darjeeling division Public Works Department(PWD), carried out the design, drawing & planning of the bridge... Messrs J.C. Gammon from Bombay was the contractor... The bridge was built on the reinforced concrete system... Since it was not possible to obtain support from the Teesta river bed due to the depth & current of water, the entire bridge was supported by a fixed arch, which had its two ends fixed on rock layers on either side of the river...

Built by the rulers of Somavamsi dynasty, the Rajarani Temple is an 11th-century Hindu temple located in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, India... The temple is believed to have been known originally as "Indreswara"... It is locally known as a "love temple" because of the erotic carvings of women and couples on the temple... Rajarani Temple is built in the Kalingan "Pancharatha" style of architecture on a raised platform with two structures - a central shrine called the "Vimana"(sanctum) with a "Bada"(curvilinear spire) over its roof rising to a height of 18 metres(59 feet), and a viewing hall for the people called "Jagamohana" with a pyramidal roof... The temple was constructed of dull red and yellow sandstone locally called "Rajarani"... There are no images inside the sanctum, and hence it is not associated with a specific sect of Hinduism but broadly classified as Shaivite based on the niches...

The "Konark Wheel"...
.
The Sun Temple of Konark, Odisha was designed in the shape of a huge chariot drawn by 7 mighty spirited horses on 12 pairs of gorgeously decorated wheels at its base... The size of each wheel is 9 feet 9 inches in diameter, having 8 wider spokes & 8 thinner spokes... Out of these 24 wheels, 6 are on either side of the main temple, 4 are on each side of the small sanctum & 2 on each side of the steps on the eastern front...
Various theories have been advocated regarding the significance of the Konark Wheel... According to some, the 7 horses represent the 7 days of a week, the 12 pairs of wheels represent the 12 months of a year, the 24 wheels signify the 24 hours of a day & the 8 major spokes signify the 8 "praharas"(3 hour period) of a day... According to others, the wheels of the chariot have been interpreted as the "Wheel of Life"... They portray the cycle of creation, preservation & achievement of realisation... These 12 pairs of wheels may also possibly represent the 12 zodiac signs... Some also believe that the Wheel of Konark is the same as the Dharmachakra of the Buddhists - The Wheel of Karma, The Wheel of the Law...
The Konark Wheel has 8 wider spokes & 8 thinner spokes... The distance between two wider spokes is of 3 hours(180 minutes)... The thinner spoke between two wider spokes is of 1.5 hours(90 minutes)... There are 30 beads between one wider spoke to the next thinner spoke and each bead represents 3 minutes... The sundial shows time in an anti-clockwise manner & the top centre wider spoke represents 12 o' clock midnight...
