September 11, 1976 - KC and the Sunshine Band went to No.1 on the US singles chart with, '(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty'. The song became their third number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as their third number-one on the Hot Soul Singles chart.

All their hits were written by their bass player/producer Rick Finch and their lead singer/keyboard player Harry Wayne Casey (KC). Finch said that this song was directly inspired by dance moves they witnessed in clubs. He tells Songfacts: The Bump was big back then, and then every once in a while you'd see someone break loose and shake their booty like Jell-O. We figured, okay, how do you write about this? You know, say it like it is. We also were collecting phrases, trying to find a buzz word and write about it, or a catch phrase, and try and expound on that. Just trying to keep it fun.

Finch goes on to explain this method of tailoring songs to Disco culture: As we started performing, we'd pay attention to what the people were doing, either body moves or body language, and try to transfer that back into the next production. As soon as we got back off the road we'd go right into the studio with that freshly captured energy, start recording, and not try to think too much.

MY FAVORITE KC & THE SUNSHINE BAND SONG!

August 30, 1975 - KC and the Sunshine Band went to No.1 on the US singles chart with, 'Get Down Tonight'. It was the first of their five No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. It also reached the top of the Hot Soul Singles chart and was an international chart hit, reaching No. 1 in Canada and charting in No.44 in Australia, No.11 in Belgium, No.5 in the Netherlands, and No.21 in the UK.

Richard Finch explained that "Get Down Tonight" was inspired by a Gilbert O'Sullivan song called "Get Down," which is sometimes known as "Bad Dog, Baby." Finch explains: He wrote that song about his dog. That record was really hot back then. And I was like, 'Okay, this guy has a great idea.' He's talking about 'get down.' But I didn't find out until later on he was talking about his dog. And I was like, 'Well, that's really square.' How hip is that?

The song features a distinctive introduction, in which a recorded guitar solo is rendered at double speed over a normal-speed guitar line in the background. After observing someone else slowing down a tape machine, Richard Finch had the idea of using this technique to create the guitar riff, as a way of adding to the song something "that really keeps the buzz, that really keeps the excitement going all the way through without being too artificial sounding." Finch states that he was "always doing weird science" in those days, referring to his various experiments with sound.

February 3, 1979 - "Y.M.C.A." by Village People peaked at No.2 on the US singles chart. It was kept out of the top spot by Rod Stewart's Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?

The song was written by producer Jacques Morali and policeman lead singer Victor Willis. Willis was married to Phylicia Rashad (whom he met during the run of The Wiz) from 1978 until 1982. YMCA was released in 1978 as the only single from their third studio album Cruisin' (1978). The song reached number one in the UK, becoming the group's biggest hit. It is one of fewer than forty singles to have sold 10 million (or more) physical copies worldwide.

Upon its release, the YMCA threatened to sue the band over trademark infringement. Nobody contacted the Y regarding permission to use the YMCA trademark for the song. The organization ultimately settled with the composers out of court and later expressed pride regarding the song saluting the organization.

The song remains popular and is played at many sporting events in the U.S. and Europe, with crowds using the dance in which the arms are used to spell out the four letters of the song's title as an opportunity to stretch. Moreover, the song also remains particularly popular due to its status as a disco classic and gay anthem, even among listeners who are otherwise uninvolved in disco or gay culture.

David Hodo (construction worker) recalls: We had finished our third album Cruisin', and we needed one more song as a filler. Jacques wrote "Y.M.C.A." in about 20 minutes - the melody, the chorus, the outline. Then he gave it to Victor Willis and said, "Fill in the rest." I was a bit skeptical about some of our hits, but the minute I heard "Y.M.C.A.," I knew we had something special. Because it sounded like a commercial. And everyone likes commercials. "Y.M.C.A." certainly has a gay origin. That's what Jacques was thinking when he wrote it, because our first album [1977's Village People] was possibly the gayest album ever. I mean, look at us. We were a gay group. So was the song written to celebrate gay men at the YMCA? Yes. Absolutely. And gay people love it."

Repost from @musicflashbacks January 15, 1977 - British singer Leo Sayer went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'You Make Me Feel Like Dancing' taken from his 1976 album Endless Flight. It was the first of two US No.1's for the singer. Sayer wrote this song with Vini Poncia, who co-wrote the Kiss songs "I Was Made For Loving You" and "Sure Know Something.

Songwriters Sayer and Vini Poncia won a Grammy Award for the song in 1978 in the category Best R&B Song. This made two consecutive years that a white artist won the award - Boz Scaggs was the previous winner for Lowdown.

On February 13, 2012, the TV One original series Unsung aired an episode on Ray Parker Jr., in which he claimed that he was the song's original writer. Allegedly, he was playing the song on the piano, and an executive from Capitol Records heard it and later convinced him to make a demo tape. After the song came out by Sayer, Parker, Jr. could not claim copyright infringement seeing as he failed to make the tape.

Repost from @musicflashbacks โค๏ธ DONNA! ๐Ÿ’œ THIS RECORD! #DiscoRocks!

November 12, 1977 - "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer peaked at No.6 on the Hot 100.

The song was composed by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, with lyrics by Donna Summer, that first appeared on Summer's 1977 album I Remember Yesterday.

Before "I Feel Love", most disco recordings had been backed by acoustic orchestras although all-electronic music had been produced for decades. Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte's innovative production of this disco-style song, recorded with an entirely synthesized backing track, utilizing a Moog synthesizer, spawned imitators in the disco genre, and was influential in the development of new wave synthpop and later techno. Moroder went to work on the song with Bellotte in his Musicland Studios in Munich. Moroder recalled: We wanted to conclude with a futuristic song and I decided that it had to be done with a synthesizer.

Unusually for a disco track of that era, Moroder composed the backing track and bass line before the melody. He introduced a degree of variety by altering the song's key at regular intervals and layering in Summer's repetitive and synthesized vocals.

According to David Bowie, then in the middle of recording of his Berlin Trilogy with Brian Eno, its impact on the genre's direction was recognized early on. Bowie recalled: One day in Berlin, Eno came running in and said, "I have heard the sound of the future." ... he puts on "I Feel Love," by Donna Summer. He said, "This is it, look no further. This single is going to change the sound of club music for the next fifteen years." Which was more or less right.

In the UK, "I Feel Love" peaked at the top of the UK Singles Chart in July 1977, a position it maintained for four weeks. It also topped the charts in Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy and the Netherlands; and peaked within the top ten in Canada, Ireland, Germany, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, Sweden and Switzerland. The 1982 and 1995 remixes of the song peaked at No.21 and No.8 on the chart respectively, and sales of these physical singles totalled 956,400.

This song (Macho Man) has been so special to me for years...๐Ÿ’•
Back as a kid my brothers and sisters would be home alone in our living room on a weekend or after school, on the dayglo orange shag carpet in our livingroom, playing my dad's records on the record player....
We found such antique things such as disco to be so thrilling, funny and fun...
We would turn the living room into our own discotech ๐Ÿ˜Žโšก๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿšฆ๐Ÿšฅ๐Ÿ”ฆ๐Ÿ’ก
We would even make up our own choreography in silly dances๐Ÿ˜„
One special song (whose record we wore out!) was the Village People's "Macho Man"
When the lyrics go "body, body wanna feel my body" we would do an exaggerated torso rub like as though we had some kinda wildly crazy body itch๐Ÿ˜‚
Such amazingly awesome memories!!!
To this day i can't stop dancing in my seat when i hear this song๐Ÿ’Ÿ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽต
