We came for the robots that served sushi, but these weren’t the ones we were looking for.
Finally made it over to @robosushi and I can’t say I would go again. The allure of being served by robots is lost quickly. You are greeted at the door by two lovely robots. Then you are shown to your table by one of the two host bots, Mr. Blue and Peanut. Apparently, you can hear them say “Excuse me, may I go through” when they hit a jam, but I never heard a thing. It was odd to see that the host bots were far more aware of their surroundings than the bots doing the serving, the one serving bot ran into my chair and got stuck, and that’s if they bring you your food. I remember reading somewhere that the only thing delivered by human servers are specialty rolls, that’s not true, the majority of what we ordered was served by human servers. The chance of capturing you being served by a server bot is slim. Being served by robots is the draw to this take on sushi and dim sum, and the early reviews made it sound promising but the gimmick is in need of an upgrade.
While the menu has lots to choose from, the food was just okay. It wasn’t as good as I’ve been told. Some of the dishes were great. Others not so much. Some were fresh. Others not at all. The portions were either small or on par when compared to other restaurants. At $30 on weekdays and $35 on weekends, its expensive. If you really want to see what the future may hold, go for it.if the doesn’t really appeal to you, pass on it.
Pork shumai, shrimp dumplings (ha gao), bbq pork buns, and custard buns! Grabbed this mini dim sum meal to go from Honey Buns in Charlotte, NC. The shumai is a packed, meaty bite of savoriness. The shrimp was well seasoned and springy fresh. The buns are the highlight of the dish though. The bun is soft, fluffy, slightly sweet, and just firm enough to hold. The bbq pork filling is marinated very well, salty, sweet, and meaty. The custard bun is sweet, creamy, and has a light milky taste. The soft creamy texture goes great with the warm, airy bun. A very pleasant meal! #dimsum#chinesefood#charlotteeats#charlottefoodie#nceats#ncfoodfinds#ncfoodie#honeybunscafeteria
