A Scanner Darkly. My favourite book by Philip K. Dick.
Richard Linklater's screen adaptation was fresh and daring, with a distinct hippy-acidic take on Dick's California, but it stood no chance when confronted with the super schizophrenic and gloomy original.
To be fair, not a lot of movies do their literary predecessors justice. At least this one didn't try to follow somebody else's foodsteps.
What I absolutely adore about the movie is the fantastic soundtrack and a few very strong cinematic moments. Like when Keanu goes: "What does the scanner see?". It kept coming back to me every now and again, so this week I finally decided I'll give it a spin through my digitakt. Then, I added an Analog RYTM beat and a funky prophety sequence on the TETRA. Hope you like it.
