Can you impress at your interview with your knowledge of the Minamata treaty?
The Minamata Treaty is a global environmental treaty aimed at reducing the release of mercury into the environment. The EU's Mercury Regulation has the same aim for the territory of the European Union.
Both documents prescribe a phase-down of the use of dental amalgam for environmental reasons.
The Minamata Treaty advocates a phase-down of the use of dental amalgam, in line with the domestic circumstances of each country and in tandem with recommendations for prevention programmes and increased research into alternative materials.
The EU has formalised some of these recommendations by including them in a piece of legislation and adding some specific requirements aimed at reducing the use of amalgam.
The Regulation does not ban the use of amalgam.

Overjet is the extent of horizontal distance between the upper & lower front teeth. Excessive overjet occurs when the upper front teeth are significantly further forward than the lower front teeth. Increased overjet requires correction by orthodontist.
The video shows one type of increased overjet treatment, which is orthodontics and selective extraction:
A frequent option for the correction of excess overjet is to shorten the maxillary arch by removing the maxillary first premolars and retracting the maxillary anterior teeth. This can be used when the patient has a mandibular deficiency or when the patient has a short mandibular arch from missing mandibular teeth.
For many patients, especially those whose facial profile would have benefitted from premolar extraction, this option can be a very good choice.
