A dental crown or a cap can be used to cover a tooth. ⠀
"A dental crown or a cap can be used to cover a tooth. Two indications are when a tooth has had root canal therapy, or when a tooth has a very large restoration that needs some protection."⠀

Teeth can become discolored for many reasons. Consuming red wine, curry, dark sodas, coffee, tea, and a variety of different fruits and vegetables can discolor the enamel layer of your teeth. Smoking or chewing tobacco products have diverse and terrible overall effects on your dental health including discoloration. Poor oral hygiene can lead to the breakdown of the enamel layer and eventual exposure & discoloration of the underlying dentin layer.
But, there are also factors that are out of our control that can lead to yellowed tooth color. Trauma to a young child’s tooth or the use of tetracycline antibiotics with children can lead to unnatural discoloration of teeth. Medical treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation can also be the culprit. Time itself can be to blame when it comes to the yellowing of teeth, as the enamel layer becomes thinner with age allowing more of the dentin layer, which naturally yellows over time, to show through.
Depending on the cause of discoloration, there are many treatments available to restore the natural, lighter color of your teeth. This is not to say that dark yellow teeth can easily look pearly white again but improving the color by a few shades at the very least is a reasonable result in many cases.
