Two of the DBT skills that I’ve been using a lot this week are “half-smile” and “willing hands.” These both fall under the category of radical acceptance, and they can help chemically change the reaction your body/mind has in different situations.
So, how do you use these skills?
Half smiling is just as it sounds. You smile slightly, to an extent where it’s likely not even visible. It’s turning up the corners of your lips just enough to make a slight change in your facial muscles.
To do “willing hands”, simply open your hands palm side up to let energy in.
I often find that doing these things at the same time is even more powerful. Plus, you can use these skills practically anywhere at anytime, isn’t that awesome?!

I’ve been to my group therapy as a part of DBT programme it’s my fifth week in I have two more sessions before I move onto the full therapy programme where I will have one to one therapy and group therapy each week. The group therapy has been difficult at times, but so far I have learnt a lot of skills which I hope I can apply in the future. Although group therapy is something that I’ve never wanted, I’ve been open minded and gone into it with my eyes open and to take what I can from it, as I know that it will lead to recovery in the end. Even if group therapy doesn’t work for you it’s good to know that there are so many people going through the same as you and although your experiences and challenges are different it’s nice to know there’s so many people with the same condition and struggles.  It shows that mental health can affect anyone. 
I really do recommend reaching out for help in what ever form it is, group therapy allows you to see your not alone and the ability to gain advice from others who understand. 
Therapy is my only option now I’ve tried everything else and for the first time I feel positive that this DBT is going to allow me to move on from the past, help me manage my illness, set me on the road to recovery and hopefully get to a stage where I know longer use unhealthy behaviours in order to manage overwhelming emotions.

I had a therapy session today and I will be doing a lot more journaling as a result✔️ I have an extremely analytical, detail-oriented mind. It’s great because it allows me to create intricate art and notice a lot of tiny things in our world. It’s not so great when it lets my mind run circles around situations and memories. To work with the positive and negatives of my active mind, writing things down helps enormously. It has almost the same effect as dancing, only it works with the other part of brain to work through trying situations. This is why I combine journaling with dance. They have the same end point, but each satisfies different parts of us. We can be soft and rigid all at once. How can we give attention to both? Gorgeous art by @gusgus_stvaraonica

Started doing transcription work today. It's work from home, when I want, only as long as I want, and paid weekly. This is great for keeping me in my little bubble and accomadting my mental health. And heaven knows I need the extra income. One draw back is it doesn't get me out and around people, but that makes it super sustainable. Also I can get really obsessed and into it and basically time flys by and I haven't eaten or drank water.

Now I'm off to therapy even though I dun wanna. Because I'm a grown woman taking care of my business.

4. Utilize Pet Therapy. Critter Cuddles are the best! Alternative is a soft pillow. .

💜A healthy response from you setting a boundary will be someone respecting them, not pushing them, not bullying them, and definitely not making you feel bad for setting the boundary.

💗Early in my shame recovery it would take EVERY ounce in me to even tell the barista at Starbucks to fix the mistake that was made in the drink. After I did it though I would be sure to treat this as a moment to remember.

I’m that annoying car in front of you that can’t quite navigate the intersection when the lights are out ~ I’m SO hesitant yet I know exactly where I want to go. But, lying in bed, with one arm trapped beneath a sleeping 1 year old, I promise to begin. As a troubled teen I dreamt of finding a ‘tribe’ who understood me. I never did. Give your pre-frontal cortex a little bit of a break, fellow over thinkers! Sit back and wonder with curiosity, as if you were a researcher or scientist. Color, draw, or write down what you notice. We are more than our thinking brains and our thoughts do not define us.  For today, try to wonder and be curious!

It’s Tuesday Tips! This week we are talking about mindset and our topic is be your own cheerleader. Here are some tips on how you can proactively be your own cheerleader:⠀
⠀
1-Pay attention to how you speak to yourself. Identify and acknowledge when your inner critic, the opposite of your cheerleading voice, is present. Label it as such and recognize that it is harsh and not necessarily true. ⠀
2-Shift your negative self-talk to positive. Flip that voice that is cruel, negative, and tends to beat you up. When a self-deprecating, harsh thought about yourself pops up, think about the opposite of it and tell yourself that. Examples: "I am such a screw up vs. I am doing my best and that is enough;" "I am so messed up, what's wrong with me vs. I am human and no one is perfect;" "I am stupid vs. I am a strong, smart, capable person;" "I don't deserve happiness vs. I deserve to be treated with respect;" "I can never get anything right vs. I am not defined by my mistakes;" "I am unlovable vs. I am worthy of being loved." ⠀
3- Create positive mantras. Come up with general words of encouragement and give yourself praise. Remind yourself that you are beautiful, smart, and strong. Know that you are worthy, deserving of love, and important in the world. Put your positive thoughts into a statement to say over and over to yourself. ⠀
3-Challenge your judgements. We often find “proof” that our negative self-talk is accurate. We tend to interpret events in ways that reinforce that voice mentioned above. If you can start checking the facts and separating reality from your assumptions and interpretations, you can create more positivity in your mindset. ⠀

Last night I had a really intense suicide related dream. I woke up and could not stop dwelling on a past attempt of mine. Just thinking over and over what could have gone different or if I had gotten help then instead of letting it just get worse, etc. it took me down quite a rabbit hole. It took a lot of strength, but I woke up my fiancé to help me stay safe and change my thinking in that moment and it helped so much! TW over: So I guess what I am getting at it, please don’t be afraid to ask for support when you need it, there are people that genuinely want to help you and see you succeed ❤️

The Flourish office is up and running! September was a super hectic month. I spent most of Hurricane Florence ripping out glued down carpet and hoping that furniture orders wouldn’t be delayed in the wet weather. It’s so exciting to have this space open now though and have a spot that feels relaxing and focused. *

Flourish is on three bus lines from UNC’s campus (just 7 min away) and just a half a block away from Carrboro faves like @weaverstreetmarket, @risedtwndurham, @graysquirrelcoffee, @ceremonysalon, & @cameronsgiftgallery. *

Trying to maintain #baseline has been so slippery lately. Working hard meant less sleep and less sleep meant I couldn't regulate. Finally, I slept last night but then came into work and saw my co-workers in pain which left me in pain. I had to go to the roof and cry. Then exhaustion set in. Went for a walk and it's the most beautiful fall day where rain and sunshine co-exist. And theres little more beautiful than this, except being in awe is not baseline!

This is the train of thought I am using today. It's not always easy not to dwell on a bad day but even if I just work one hour to the next when I'm finding it difficult. So far it's worked and I used my #dbt skills to help me achieve things, however small, to make today feel more positive. И так... #DBT - это диалектическая поведенческая терапия (англ. Dialectical behavior therapy, сокращённо DBT), она была создана около 1987 года американским психологом Маршей Линехан, для лечения пациентов, страдающих ПРЛ (пограничным расстройством личности). Этот подход помогает уменьшить риск слишком интенсивной эмоциональной реакции на стрессовые ситуации и снижает опасность суицидального, агрессивного или аутодеструктивного поведения.
Диалектическая поведенческая психотерапия является одним из направлений «третьей волны» поведенческой психотерапии. Она называется «диалектической», поскольку пациенту предлагается осознать, что существует много различных точек зрения на ситуацию, которую он субъективно воспринимает, как «невыносимую» и «безвыходную».

ЧТО ТАКОЕ DBT? (часть 1) #лерочка_о_DBT  ⠀ Я решила попробовать продвигать свои знания в массы, вдруг кому-то будет полезно!! ⠀ И так... #DBT  - это диалектическая поведенческая терапия (англ. Dialectical behavior therapy, сокращённо DBT), она была создана около 1987 года американским психологом Маршей Линехан, для лечения пациентов, страдающих ПРЛ (пограничным расстройством личности). Этот подход помогает уменьшить риск слишком интенсивной эмоциональной реакции на стрессовые ситуации и снижает опасность суицидального, агрессивного или аутодеструктивного поведения. Диалектическая поведенческая психотерапия является одним из направлений «третьей волны» поведенческой психотерапии. Она называется «диалектической», поскольку пациенту предлагается осознать, что существует много различных точек зрения на ситуацию, которую он субъективно воспринимает, как «невыносимую» и «безвыходную». ⠀ НАВЫКИ, РАЗВИВАЕМЫЕ В ХОДЕ ТЕРАПИИ ⠀ Поскольку главной проблемой пациентов, страдающих различным психиатрическими расстройствами, является эмоциональная неустойчивость и крайне интенсивные эмоциональные реакции на стресс, диалектическая терапия включает в себя развитие определенных навыков, помогающих контролировать негативные эмоции и вести себя оптимальным способом. ⠀ ЗНАЧИМОСТЬ ТЕРАПИИ DBT В ЦИРПП ⠀ И так, какое же значение имеет диалектическая поведенческая терапия в клинике? There are certain feelings that we are socially taught are ok to feel: happy, compassionate, brave... Then there are those we are told we ‘should’ feel: excited for others’ accomplishments, willing to give up something from ourselves to another, or just to ‘feel ok’ in the midst of life’s upheavals. Then, there are those feelings that many of us have been taught to never, ever feel: never feel angry, never feel selfish, never feel too proud of yourself. And these messages about feelings, in whatever form we received them, run very deep.
Yet in all of honest humanity, all kinds of feelings exist. And they all exist for a reason. Repressing, or pushing down, any one feeling gives us a stunted sense of the experience we are having. This, in turn, leaves us feeing frustrated, mind understood, and alone - and even some of THOSE feelings are often pushed down.
So why the fear of feelings? Perhaps it is because we, or those that taught us all this, equated ‘feeling’ with ‘action’. ‘Feeling angry’ translated into ‘I will act on my anger’. ‘Feeling proud’ translated into ‘I will act vainly’. And so forth. Knowing this, we can start appreciating that in fact, feelings don’t automatically equate actions. The more we allow all our feeling in - even those that are messy and ugly - we can realize that we have the ability to experience our feelings, our full experience can exist within us and we can still survive and thrive functionally.
If that IS a problem, that strong feelings seem to always bring on regrettable actions, a mental health professional can help with ‘emotional regulation’. And even this step can only be accomplished if we allow our feelings - all of them - to be there.

I've been absent from this account because I've not been managing life very well. Barely. I'm low key embarrassed that I haven't been coping or mastering skills. I did really well for a few weeks but then started sinking into depression and now I'm bouncing back a tiny tiny bit. I've been battling the hardest battle of depression since I was diagnosed 16 years ago....I will say this though, I have not self harmed (although I did punch a wall and hurt my hand.) Sometimes I feel like I'm failing at these skills but looking back, I use them all the time..more so than I ever have. I'm having a rough time atm but had this meltdown happened a few months ago..I probably wouldn't be here. I've allowed myself the grace to feel things I'm trying to force down and then do my best not to judge them. They are valid and need to come up but I do not want them to sit there. I purged so much emotion in a screaming rage I'm still recovering from it. But I think I needed it. Lots of opposite actions today. Need to clean up and get outside and get my head above water. I'll be back around. 😊☀️✌

Therapy has truly helped me in the past. It's been over a year since I've been seen by a #LMHC . I will be returning to #CBT  therapy next month and if possible #DBT  too. DBT is somewhat hard to find available where I live. The most used and most common form of therapy that is practiced is CBT. So don't be ashamed of getting help. How could I ever claim for one moment to be lonely when these two humans (and many more) are in my life. 
When my therapist asked me to pick people to be real deep and honest with. People who I could at any moment or time of any day tell my everything to, who wouldn’t co sign my bullshit but also would sit with me in empathy and not challenge me in a way that diminished my feelings in those deep moments: I picked them without hesitation. 
I am lucky to have about 10 incredible people on my list of lifers. I am lucky to have empathy run deep in my close circle. I do not take this circle for granted one bit. Each person contributing something different from the next but all leading with love. 
Word on the street is you are most like the 5 people you spend your time with. And what a gift that 2 of them carry these gorgeous loving smiles.
Get you a squad you can count on for all things positive and growth. You will absolutely not regret living your best life with this kind of encouragement and support. ❤️•

...aber für was kämpfe ich eigentlich? Wo ist das schöne Leben? Was habe ich alles unter größten Mühen aufgegeben und was bleibt mir noch? Wo ist der Sonnenschein? Wo sind die Farben? Wann wird es besser? Kann es überhaupt besser werden? Momentan denke ich oft an Selbstverletzungen. Ans Hungern. Ans verschwinden und schneiden. Tiefe Schnitte, blutige Schnitte. Es fühlt sich an als wäre es alles was ich brauche. Was mich aushalten lässt. Mich spüren. Ich bin soweit von mir entfernt. Ich fühle mich nicht. Ich spüre mich nicht. Nichts außer meinem rasenden Herzen. Und Einsamkeit. Viel Einsamkeit und gleichzeitig das Bedürfnis nach Einsamkeit. Aber Stopp. Halt. Das ist falsch. Aber was ist richtig? Was ist gut? Der neue Weg. Der neue Weg ist richtig, glaube ich zumindest. Aber er ist auch steinig. Er war schon besser, ebener. Jetzt sind da wieder so viele Steine, Geröll und Löcher. Tiefe Löcher. Aber vielleicht wird es wieder besser. Ganz bestimmt wird es wieder besser. #recovery ist nicht immer leicht. Manchmal schwebt man vor sich hin, dann ist man wiederum ganz unten. Voller Hoffnungslosigkeit. Und dann hilft es mir an das Schöne zu denken. Unabhängigkeit davon ob ich es erreichen kann und werde. Und an das Schlechte, was ich niemals mehr haben möchte. An die Tiefpunkte meiner Essstörung und an die Tiefpunkte meiner Selbstverletzung (siehe Fotos). Diese Gipsschiene war eine der schlimmsten Konsequenzen auf eine Selbstverletzung und nein, das möchte ich nicht mehr. Ich will es nie mehr und der Teil, der da in mir so wütet und schreit, der will das eigentlich auch nicht. Ich werde ihn umsorgen, mich umsorgen. Und es wird besser. Das weiß ich. Aber ich möchte mich mitteilen, denn es ist eben kein Bilderbuchprozess. Es ist nicht immer leicht, manchmal ist es sogar ziemlich schwer!
