• No Farms, No Food • 🐮
The farming industry is one that is very near to my heart and with the current state of the industry I often ask myself, is there a future for dairy farms?
Many local farms are losing money daily by operating and couldn’t even afford to buy seed in order to grow crops to feed their cows next year.
Here are a couple quick stats: ▪️The number of dairy farms in the US has decreased by 70% since 1990
▪️The current price of milk is around $14 per hundred weight. ▪️In 2017, 3.8% of dairy farms went out of business and that number is expected to greatly increase this year.
Here is what you can do to help: 🔹Buy local: meaning before you go grocery shopping research to see which dairy products on the shelves are from farms in your area
🔹Shop at farmers markets
I challenge you to shop local and tag your friends below to challenge them too! We need your help to keep our food local!
No need for a vintage filter here! This pic was taken in the early '80's. My parents were building our childhood home and like many others my Dad had two jobs......these days it has a fancy term called #sidehustle !! His side hustle was an ice cream van biz (with scooped ice cream and not soft serve!). American friends the ice cream van/truck business is very cool back home (think of it like the fancy food trucks here!). Wouldn't it be so trendy if he still had this van?! #vintageicecreamvan#idoodairy#icecream
That's right, we're bringing back the Fleurieu Milk Company Show Bag for this year's @royaladelaideshow. This year's bag includes some new additions like our new and improved cooler bag, a keep cup (for all of your Fleurieu Milk coffees) and some activity books! When at uni I relief milk on a 450 cow block calving farm. It is interesting being able to work with the different breeds of cows, Holsteins at work, and Jerseys at home. These breeds produce very differently composed milk, with Jersey milk being much higher in fats and protein. It’s for this reason that Jersey milk receives a premium price of 34ppl compared to normal milk which is currently at 27ppl. Despite this being higher than it has been over the past couple of years, in the general scheme of things, farmers still aren’t paid anywhere near enough compared to the amount of time and effort spent by the farm to produce that litre. I think what I am trying to say is, it’s really important, especially at the moment with dairy industry suffering attack from vegan views, that we back British farming!

For #vegetarians There's more #cruelty in a piece of #cheese a cup of #yogurt or a glass of #milk than meat! This video shows #cows and #calves being tortured with red-hot branding irons, and #barbaric devices that mutilate their horns. The horrific abuse is standard operating procedure for the world's dairy industry. Cows are the victims of baby-theft, slavery, rape, commodification and murder!
Since female mammals can only produce milk during and after pregnancy, all cows are raped once a year to impregnate them.
Bigger dairy facilities immobilize the cows on what the industry calls a “rape rack” where they shove a bare hand or long steel device into their vaginas to inject them with bull semen.
Smaller operations individually lock the animals into a tiny “stall” to perform the rape. Around 9.5 months later, moments after giving birth, babies are stolen from their mothers. From a business standpoint, the dairy industry has to steal babies to prevent the calves from sucking up the milk they want to sell to the public.
Like male chicks on an egg farm, male calves are considered useless by-products of the dairy industry; males can't become pregnant or produce milk.
Unlike the chicks who are thrown into rendering machines fully conscious, the calves are imprisoned by the veal industry in small stalls or tiny crates, sometimes with ropes and chains around their necks to immobilize them. Minimal to no movement is allowed; this prevents muscle development, which keeps THEIR flesh extra tender. The "imprisoned" video also shows calves licking each other's faces to comfort each other, and desperately suckling into the air hoping to connect to their moms' udders.
The veal industry only exists because of the dairy industry! If you avoid consuming the dismembered bodies of male babies but consume dairy, you are still responsible for massive amounts of pain and death because you are supporting the prolonged suffering of mother cows, and their female babies who wind up being raped and imprisoned like their moms!

#innovation / Salesman sample handheld patent device for milking cows / wood and rubber / c. 1870s “The Elastic India-Rubber Cow Milker” was advertised as “One of the Most Needed and Useful Labor Saving Implements ever Manufactured and Sold.” Though manufacturers Roth & Son of Mummasburg, Pennsylvania dubbed it an “Automatic Milker,” it was in fact a hand-operated device. The manual milker distanced the hand of the farm worker from the cow’s teat by several inches but essentially required the same action as milking the cow directly. Once the cow’s teat was placed in the rubber-cushioned opening at the end of the device, the milker would grip the two handholds the other end and alternately apply and alleviate pressure to milk the animal. Given the fragile invention required the same basic manual actions and hand position as milking a cow by hand, it does not seem likely it saved the dairy farmer much effort nor provided “Cleanliness and Efficiency” on a working farm for long.
Hands-Free Devices / American Antiques as Source Code
Smartphones, social media, apps, digital advertising — the utility of these technologies and the paradoxical forces they unleash seem unprecedented, but are in fact programmed into American culture and material history. Though some of the antique objects in the #handsfreedevices collection are over 200 years old, each previous-generation model gives shape and texture to the intangible technological forces reinventing how we interact, work, and play — all with wireless capability and unlimited battery life.
#handsfreedevices enable us to grow closer together and retreat farther apart than ever, to express our individuality and cowtow to rigid social norms, to hone our focus and fall to hopeless distraction, to champion our values and sanction odious behavior, to access endless knowledge and accept fewer facts — to gain greater control over our lives as we surrender our agency.

Cows, when they are no longer considered productive on dairy farms, are sent to slaughter, starting at 4 or 5 years old.
Vigil @torontocowsave Canada|April 2017.
Behind milk and dairy products reigns a cycle of violence and death. Cows are subjected on farms to forced pregnancies, one after another. In each birth they are separated from their babies, to snatch their milk, they are milked even while pregnant. At the end of their fourth calving the production of milk decline. So that the exploiters decide to pregnant again or send them to slaughterhouse.
In Mexico, it is estimated that 45% of the cows transported to slaughterhouses are pregnant.
A life worth living is something I feel we are here to guard... a life worth living for all beings. No superiority, no entitlements, no lies and hidden agendas. A society with integrity... wouldn’t that be refreshing!? 🌱
We are have been so numbed for so long, I can’t help but feel that the awakening is going to be spectacular ✨ #wakeuphumanity
Imagine losing Your child for minutes & Imagine losing child for lifetime.!! Say no to Dairy industry we don’t have any right on their Milk.. A cow’s milk is for her baby not for Us.. #saynotodairyproducts#dairyindustry#cowmilk
Just a friendly reminder where your meat comes from, and that you have the power to change your lifestyle and stop paying for this 💚
The first time I went to a slaughterhouse was Brammall and Sons in Sheffield. That day they were killing cows, and about 5 trucks went in that morning. I saw the fear in their eyes as the trucks went in, I heard the screaming then I saw the JCB come back out full of heads guts and ligaments, with intestines trailing along the floor. The process was repeated all morning, like a conveyor belt of misery.
All the workers (except one 16 year old apprentice who really didn’t want to be there) would come out with blood on their overalls laughing at us. It seemed like they were so desensitised to it they didn’t see kicking cows into grids and putting bolts in their heads as violence. It was one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever witnessed, and it will stick with me forever.
The ultimate act of self love is taking care of your body. Feeding it good food, keeping it hydrated, and staying active. Our body is sacred and easily influenced by what we fuel it with, which is a good and bad thing. It's a bad thing because it's easy for us to fuel ourselves with junk, and then we feel like shit and often times do nothing about it. Human nature makes it easy to fall and stay in that trap! However, having a body that is sensitive to what we fuel it with is ultimately a good thing because when we do fuel ourselves with real food, we feel better and have more energy, more happiness, and more love. Love is the source for it all. So when you're putting fuel into your body, ask yourself how it's serving you:
✨ How will this food make my body feel?
✨ Is what I'm eating or drinking helping me feel good today?
✨ Am I loving my body with what I'm eating today?
I encourage you to be curious and ponder these questions as you're sitting down for your meals and snacks today. You might be surprised by how intuitively you know what serves you best 😉
The product for day two of "How it's Farmed" is ice cream!
Ice cream is a mixture of cream and/or milk, sweeteners, stabilizers, and emulsifiers.
The creaminess and richness of ice cream is provided by the milk fat. Sweeteners not only provide a sweet flavor but also lower the freezing point of the ice cream, which makes it easier to scoop.
Stabilizers are proteins or carbohydrates that are added to keep the ice crystals small and well spread out throughout the mixture. Small ice crystals will naturally migrate together and create large ice crystals. When this happens the ice cream becomes coarse and icy. The stabilizers will aid in keeping the small crystals apart.
Emulsifiers are used to help keep the milk fat evenly dispersed in the ice cream during freezing and storage. By having a good fat distribution, the ice cream will be very smooth.
The first step in making ice cream is to mix the cream and/or milk, stabilizers, and emulsifiers. The ice cream will be pasteurized (heated to a specific temperature for a certain time to destroy harmful microorganisms). Next the ice cream will be homogenized (process used to incorporate the fat globules into the liquids to keep them blended). The ice cream will then be left to age for at least 4 hours at 5 degrees Celsius to improve the whipping properties.
After aging is complete liquid flavors and colors will be added prior to freezing. The ice cream mixture is frozen in special machines with paddles that will mix air into the ice cream. The air contributes to the denseness and richness of the ice cream. The ice cream will be removed from the freezer and fruits, nuts, candy pieces, etc. will then be added to the mixture.
The ice cream will then be packaged and left to harden. Hardening is when the ice cream is rapidly cooled below -25 degrees Celsius. The rapid cooling process helps create small ice crystals and maintains that nice smooth texture.

This woman is a saint.
I cannot get my head around the fact that In 2018 people are happy to ignore the life of these animals and continue to pay for their suffering.
And the majority claim to be “animal lovers”
As the superior species on this planet is our job to look after this planet and its inhabitants, not cause suffering, pain, destruction, exploitation and mass slaughter.
It makes me sad to think how many years I spent eating meat and dairy, but I was uneducated and didn’t know the truth behind the food on my plate.
Once I saw the horrors my heart was forever broken and I will never look back. The only thing to do is spread awareness and hope that people listen, open their eyes and their hearts.
It’s so difficult for me to understand how you can choose suffering. And it’s even more difficult when it’s people that I know and love. I know you are aware, because I know you’ve seen my videos. I know you’ve seen the pictures.
Gentle, loving beings who form strong bonds with their mothers and those surrounding. These calves were separated at birth from their mothers.. use your voice for these animals, spread awareness, and get active.

Before you disagree educate yourself. Many people take the assumption they know exactly where their food comes from and this is the reason these industries succeed and get away with causing so much damage. No women would want to become forced to be pregnant by means of a “rape rack” and then go through birth to have her baby taken away and killed and then have the breast milk meant for her child taken and sold to adults. This is what happens everyday to these innocent animals. Cows milk is no more natural for humans to drink that any other mammals milk and drinking your dogs milk wouldn’t cross your mind! Milk is baby cow growth drink which consists of nothing essential that we can’t get from plant based drinks and vegetables. Humane milk is a myth don’t buy into it 🌿🙌
