Cymatic: The Visualisation of Sound - opens tomorrow! #belindamcgrath#cymatic#merilynluckgallery @rockhamptonartgallery
#Cymatic Slater Firewire first impressions
Conditions: 3-4 NE clean
Dims 5 11 20 5/8 2 13/16 38.4L
Fins: futures quad
Tested: Hayden shapes front, alpha rears
Nose: blunt and wide with a little entry rocker. Looks strange but works well. No chance of nosediving even in pumping waves.
Tail - bat tail with a medium rocker
It paddled well considering the short length. It duck dives and catches waves nicely. Take offs were smooth and stable.
It sits a little lower in the water than the indicated volume.
You can tell it’s short, because it is more nimble than a regular shape / size. I would usually ride a 6 3 so 4 inches less is noticeable. Slightly skatey but controllable.
Construction: LFT strong and light. It does not bounce around like other EPS boards.
The most interesting thing of all was speed.
The hype around this board relates to fast speeds but I didn’t notice that. It was not as fast as some of my other boards... yet. I’ll be changing the fins to see if that makes a difference.
Sneak peak of my last piece for my exhibition Cymatic at Rockhampton Art Gallery. Three layers of hand coloured etched acrylic over recycled tongue & groove timber. Images based on the sound of my children's voices.
