The Triumph of Sablika
During the 17th and 18th centuries, the primary business of the island of Curaçao was the slave trade. On August 17th, 1795 a legendary slave rebellion started on the Knip plantation under the leadership of Tula and Bazjan Karpata, that gave rise to a month-long conflict on the island between escapees and the colonial government. Over a thousand slaves joined the revolt and fought for their rights. There was one exceptional female figure who became part of this rebellion and who gave this battle an interesting twist; Sablika. As a free woman, she gave her heart by fighting for freedom, unity and fraternity.
Sablika was a leader, an educator, a strong fearless woman, who besides her own freedom, believed in fighting for the freedom of others. Her courage, her leadership, her strength made her a true role model for our local female generation.
The Triumph of Sablika stands for women’s empowerment. Women’s empowerment is the process in which women elaborate and recreate what they can be, do and accomplish in circumstances that were denied previously.
@akiishaa you rocked the stage tonight, u are making history, the crown is coming home, Curaçao 🇨🇼👑🇨🇼 #missuniverse2018#nationalcostume#curacao#proud#islandgirl
Art with a purpose
Carel Rink’s (@carelrink.art) greatest wish is to become an independent artist. He already knew that when he was a child. He was always drawing, and arts was his favorite subject in secondary school. But he is very much aware of the fact that as an independent artist it’s not easy to find a way to earn a living. As a young person in his twenties, he is already made some big steps.

•🐢🐢🐢• Yesterday’s release of this little creature!🤩 As part of my internship at STCC we do a research on the turtles around Curacao.
This picture was taken at Klein Curacao where we captured this turtle, measured and weighed him, did a health check and luckily this little turtle was totally healthy!
After this small check-up we release the turtes back in the ocean (ofcourse!) 🌊 • • •
