This client loves food and cooking, but hadn’t yet found the right spice system for their needs and so tackling the spices became a chore.
The wide neck jars allow for easy bulk filling and just the right amount of each spice, eliminating waste and packaging and saving tons of cash vs. packaged spices. Plus, mason jars are super economical and easily repurposed. The adjustable, wrap-around shelf offers high-visibility and easy access in a narrow cupboard.
Swipe for before/after. Super fun project and client is thrilled! Shop will soon be set up to order your own custom labels but in the meantime, DM me!
Campana Brothers, Cabana Cabinet, 2010. Simone Yvette Leigh, Cupboard, 2014. With the Campana’s international influence across the design sphere, consumer retail, theater and performance, and art world, it would not come as a surprise to find their particular visual and material lexicon influencing artists today. Even if artists today may or may not have seen said work. The ramifications are clear. For over 30 years Fernando and Humberto have devised such ingenious approaches to the stuff of their daily lives in Brazil that it has made the rest of us sit up in wonder and amazement. Even haters provoked by the simplicity, even basic, premise of the stuffed animal chairs concede its elemental and innovative genius. Humberto calls this cabinet a “self-portrait from childhood,” when he wanted to roam naked, wild and free, like an Amazonian Indian, and grew his hair long, “like a hippy.” (Humberto, correct me if I’m misremembering our conversation.) The reference is an allusion to the raffia covered thatched indigenous “oca” dwellings of Amazonian tribes, in surrealist proportions that suggest Cousin It. The true subversion is in the consumer market that adopts this piece of “third world” living in their chic living rooms. Perhaps Leigh’s subversion is in forcing confrontation of these African dwellings in the mass media. But let’s acknowledge the pioneers of this brand of global leveling. Design is not art but it does influence it. @humberto_campana #design#sculpture#brasil#amazon#cabana#cupboard#indigenous#africa
Here’s how I re-do oak cabinets...
1. Fill old pull holes, sand 60 grit. Spray with a paint primer mix.
2. Sand 120 grit, spray again.
3. Sand 220 grit, spray light coat of varathane. I’m into satin finish.
*if painting white or black don’t use varathane, apply another coat of paint. White yellows, black blues. #refurb#diy#wood#oak#paint # graco #cupboard#muskoka#petawawa
