Meet Ashly G. 😊💪🏻 Why Did you Join CrossFit CAJIR?
I fell in love with CrossFit after my first class. I quickly learned CrossFit CAJIR wasn’t your typically gym atmosphere. No matter what your background, everyone was treated the same. The coaches were amazing and you could tell they really cared about their members and wanted to see them succeed. The members were friendly and encouraging as well.
What’s been your biggest accomplishment ?
I have had a lot accomplishments over the past 6 months. My biggest one would be placing 3rd at The Festivus Teams competition with Vanessa. When Vanessa and I decided to be partners, I was really intimidated. Vanessa was on a different level than I was. After the first practice session , I realized Vanessa was great and would push me to be a different level. All of our hard work paid off and we made it to the podium. That was a very proud moment for me. I never dreamed I would be competing in a CrossFit competition.
What are you working on now?
As Funny as it may sound, I’m working on pull-ups. I want to be able to do a pull-up.
What’s your favorite memory at CrossFit CAJIR?
My favorite memory would have to be doing Murph with Micheal and Camden. This was my first Hero workout, and having my whole family complete the workout together was a great experience.
What motivates you to continue training at CrossFit CAJIR?
There are a lot of factors that drive my motivation. My health is a major one. Before starting CrossFit I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and was placed on medication. After 6 months of CrossFit my blood pressure was back to normal and I was taken off my meds! Another motivator is I love seeing my body get stronger, mentally and physically. I’ve completed workouts that I never thought was possible. I’m gaining confidence in myself and my abilities. One more motivator would have to be the feeling of accomplishment that I fell after I finish the workouts.
They say ‘it’s a handful, not a can full’ which is why I’m having a really hard time with this big tin of Texas Pecans in my office. Every year when we receive these over the holidays, I struggle not to go overboard but they are SO tempting!
On the other hand...pecans have a ton of health benefits....
💥contain potent antioxidants
💥rich in minerals like thiamin, zinc, manganese and copper which do things like regulate blood sugar, help produce collagen and support the immune system.
💥satisfy a sweet craving without the sugar! Naturally taste sweet, but only contain one gram of sugar.
💥helps maintain high energy and lose weight
....sooooo can you really have too much of a good thing? 🤷🏼♀️
Soooo yesterday at CrossFit I got to go in the “back room”...
Aka the room where the super strong people go to lift and do yoke things and do deficit lifts and be super cool... buttttt I’ve never gone back there before because
1) I’m a scaredy cat 😹
2) I thought I would be out of place 🤷🏻♀️
But yesterday after my deadlift PR one of the coaches had me go back there to work on keeping my core engaged on the deadlift stand up and let me tell you... I felt kind of like a rockstar 💁🏻♀️ (I even got to play my own music so naturally I blasted 2002 by @annemarie ) and it was probably the highlight of my week 🤣
Also it looks like a utility closet... not like the intense room of strong people terror I was expecting.... sooo that was disappointing 🤣
Meet @jeffworthington2 - "I always wanted to be fit but had plenty of excuses why I wasn't. The office job, traveling persons diet. Soda was my water for years and finally one of the reasons I had to change. 2 liters or more a day adds up to a lot of calories. I remember sitting at the office one day, standing up and feeling like someone was pushing me through the floor. My lack of good nutrition and exercise had finally caught up to me. I changed my diet immediately and haven't had soda since. I added an exercise routine shortly after involving a lot of walking and bicycling. When the weather got cold I started looking for something else and stumbled into @cfbezel and that's when things really started to change for me." Today I'm on an path to a healthier life most of which I can attribute to CrossFit, specifically my coach Chris. At my heaviest I was 295 pounds and now hover around 200. I started CrossFit 1 year ago (2 years working on weight) and I remember not being able to jump over a cone, doing 2 push ups (they were not good), and what's a burpee? 2019 is going to be an amazing year! I plan to get leaner, get some double unders, and bring my deadlift over 300#."
Amazing story Jeff!
