HOW TO MANAGE/REDUCE CORTISOL LEVELS
· A literature review of hormonal responses to exercise by Steinacker et al. (2003) suggested that with glycogen deficiency, cortisol levels are elevated and induce a muscle wasting state. · It was also found that ingesting carbohydrates during exercise controls many hormones, including cortisol. To ensure glycogen stores are never depleted, carbs should be ingested intra and post workouts (Davis M. et al 2001).
· High dose B Vitamins and Calcium can help regulate endocrine hormones necessary for optimal cortisol levels
· In a study performed on collegiate swimmers, supplementing 4+ grams of BCAAs and 6+ grams of Glutamine following exercise showed a significant decrease in serum cortisol levels
· A study performed on 17 junior elite weightlifters found that the individuals who ingested an extra 1 gram of Vitamin C improved their testosterone to cortisol ratios by over 20%, which led to increased muscle and connective tissue hypertrophy and faster recovery from training
· Breakfast is a necessity because it will help regulate blood sugar and cortisol prior to workouts and throughout the day.

☀️ Attempted another 1mile walk/run. Supposedly the high is 110🌡️, feels like it could have been (thanks Sahara!!!!). I did not do as much running today. Last time I think it was later in the day when I tried this. The SMARTER thing would have been to wait longer. But, the over all goal was still achieved: learning how to cope in uncomfortable the uncomfortable climate so I don't struggle the rest of the summer no learning to endure and recooperate.💪🧘 Can't wait for another camping trip with kyaking- hooked 🚣🏕️. It is soooo hot. But how else to better understand and expand your comfort zone unless you, or something else, pushes the that boundary. Physical vesus psychological. Using discomfort as soil for gratefullness and joy.
