A trip to the Falls yesterday. I couldn't bring myself to post anything yesterday because of the near-death events we encountered :( A near drowning and a man who had collapsed in the creek from a heart attack but yeah...good to be out of the office spending time with my men in the Outdoors 👍🌳🦋🦉 #birthdayweek#myboys#summer#getoutside#tennessee#creeks#makingmemories
I love beginning my #Wednesday mornings here, bright n early! Yes, I love the #outdoors ... Being at a park is cool too... #Mountain views, mhm... But the biggest #reason why this is where I want to be is it's where my #probonowork with the #homeless begins each week. Generally, I start here and end here, covering a ton of space between. •
Today I'm anticipating that some of my coverage area will be different. On July 10, the #ColoradoSprings City Council gave final approval to ban #camping within 100 feet of #creeks and other #waterways inside the city limits.
The goal of the new ordinance, which passed by a vote of 6-2, is to curb the number of #homelesspeople who set up #camps near waterways like Fountain Creek. Officials cited high levels of E. Coli in the watershed as another reason for the ban, though no proof was ever presented that those levels were caused by #homelesscamps .
I'm disheartened by the actions of the city - to further limit options for individuals who are homeless - when there are still not enough beds to #shelter them and the median home price has risen 12% since last year. People are struggling to find #affordablehousing here! Not to mention, zero studies were conducted to determine the source of any water contamination, so the decision is based purely upon speculation. •
If you're interested in becoming part of the #solution in our community consider volunteering with the Marian House or Springs Rescue Mission. Also, please take the time to #educateyourself before making rash judgments of others and the lives they live. Everyone has a story.
