So important! I think it was @inkscription’s instastory the other day that had something that said ‘don’t think that I HAVE to do it, rather say I GET to do this’ and I think that’s a beautiful thought ☺️💕🙌🏻
Booked an encaustic painting weekend immersion workshop with @aliciatormey for my birthday. .
I got married at 30. Had my son at 37. My first book was published when I was 39. I started painting at 45. .

#TBT to show you that no road is ever easy. Practice makes perfect. 7 years ago (before Cherry On Top Cake existed), I made this cake for my aunt without knowing more than what I had learned from watching episodes of Ace of Cakes with @duffgoldman. I spent hours on it with the help of family members and was extremely proud of myself- didn’t notice the imperfections such as the filling about to bulge out, the cut in my fondant at the front, or realize that I needed dowels in my cake (yes, the top tier dipped in during the event 🙊). When I look at it now, I laugh 😂 However I also can’t help but smile to see how far my work has come. I used to look up to cake artists and never believed I would get to their level; I thought it was just natural talent rather than practice. But I never gave up (shoutout to @kobebryant for instilling that mamba mentality in me). I thank everyone who pushed me to keep going and ordered cakes from me to allow me to perfect my skills. And I also thank other cake artists on all social media platforms for being transparent, answering all my questions, and showing us newbies the real deal behind the scenes. To all those artists that have self-doubt or don’t think you have the potential- keep practicing 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 I promise you: it works. As you do it more and more, the better you get & the more confidence you gain. And if you ever have any questions or need some motivation- hit me up 🤗 I’ve got lots more of these old cake photos to make you feel better 😂 #Practice#PracticeMakesPerfect#MambaMentality#Inspiration#FirstCake PS tell me why I used 3 fondant flowers and then a bunch of fake ones 😳🤷🏽♀️
Another one, I totally love the colouuuurs.
Can see so many mistakes but practice makes perfect inshallah?! Used @dmc_embroidery thread, fabric and hoop. DMC hoops are awesome coz you can hang them like frames too!

Taking it back to my amazing day on the beach in Mangochi. As it was Ramadan, I couldn't eat or drink (and didn't really have the energy to swim).
So I sat on the beach, enjoyed the view, listened to the waves, and just painted whatever. 😍
Have you ever started something, put it aside to work on in the near future, only to pick it up again years later? That's what's happened with this painting. And now I've found a better picture with exactly what I was looking for! I wanted to continue the floral motif inside the arches but I couldn't find any till I happened to come across a photo with a new perspective! Argh!!! Part of me wants to abandon and start afresh!!! #watercolours#paintingwoes#mughalarchitecture#workinprogress#shadesofblue#creativemuslimwomen
When you limit the colors of a painting u tend to know the depth of a pigment.. i did had really fun learning about it through this painting and this is also my entry for #celebratevibrantjuly hosted by @aquarryl @portia_hand @mitchumali @teejayalipio with @m.grahamco
I cut out a new top for Noura to make this weekend. You may remember this Liberty print I used to make myself a dress a couple of months ago. I have lots of large scraps remaining from clothes I’ve made which I need to use up. I have some other ideas for these too but it’s nice to have some outfits for twinning as well ☺️
Jumaa mubaraka for everyone. Don’t miss the opportunity to have noor between the two Jumaas by reading Sura AlKahf inshallah.
This picture from Istanbul three years ago makes me want to walk to the masjid 💕
